Win Pounds and a Professional Leg Up with the Trash to Treasure Challenge

Jake and Maya have launched a competition that rewards the best innovative use of waste material.

Malmesbury, United Kingdom, March 08, 2013 --(PR.com)-- As the forecast for 2013 shows no signs of breaking consumers free from times of austerity, one initiative is finding ways to keep consumers happy. Not only does this collective of talented creatives inspire people of all ages to explore their hidden talents, they also show people how to save money while pursuing an enjoyable craft.

Now, Jake and Maya Collective are raising the game, offering even more to their community. From this month they are launching a new challenge, which will see one lucky winner receive £500 in vouchers along with the chance to join the team as a celebrated upcycling designer.

Jake and Maya Collective are appealing to budding textile designers and creators to submit their own upcycling ideas.

This competition will run for a full twelve months with a new theme each month. Monthly winners will receive a £50 gift voucher and will be added to the shortlist for the overall annual prize. People participating are allowed to submit as many entries as they would like as long as each one is completely original from the last.

This months Trash to Treasure theme is "The Upcycled Denim Challenge."

To Enter
To enter, creatives with a flair for design have to add a link in the comments box to a post of their current project that shows how they have taken an unwanted pair of jeans and turned it into something that catches the eye, prolongs the life of the product and shows how this common material can be transformed into something quite rare and coveted. To qualify, the original post should also include a link back to the upcycling challenge. People can also enter via Facebook by simply uploading a picture of their project onto Jake and Maya Collective’s album, with a link back from her own page.

The closing date for this month is the 31st March at precisely 11.59PM GMT when a monthly winner will be selected and added to the yearly shortlist.

Jake and Maya are already excited about the projects they’ll see, they say, “in times of austerity, those with a creative flair triumph as with a little time anyone can turn something old and out of date into a valuable item that reflects modern fashions and generates a whole new look. We’ve already seen some brilliant designs, so we’d like to reward our community for upcycling. There is such wonderful waste material out there that it seems silly that so much goes to landfill when it can be transformed to create something special. We’re really looking forward to seeing what our entrants do with it!”
