Oak Hill, WV, June 10, 2013 --(PR.com)-- In 1863, West Virginia celebrated its independence on June 20th. In 2013, River Expeditions will celebrate West Virginia’s i150th birthday by offering $18.63 off the normal price of white water rafting trips on the New River on June 20th.

The New River offers white water rafting, float trips, fishing, kayaks, and a rich history stretching over hundreds of years. Two distinct sections of the river create adventures suitable for everyone including first-time paddlers and seasoned whitewater veterans. The Upper New River is recommended as an introduction for children older than six. This section of the river features gentle waves and pools that allow the rafter to take in the beauty surrounding them. It is a great opportunity to take pictures, swim, paddle, spot wildlife, and enjoy the beauty of nature. The Lower New River Gorge, is also known as “The Grand Canyon of the East” because it combines classic whitewater excitement with history and beauty, to forge an exciting and memorable adventure.

“Celebrating West Virginia day is a tradition for many local attractions, including special guided tours, costume days, art festivals, Civil War reenactments, and enough food to satisfy the even biggest appetite!” says River Expeditions’ owner, Rick Johnson. “This is a great time to visit because the water temperature is perfect and the scenery is amazing.”

White water rafting consists of navigating a stretch of river on an inflatable raft, with the average trip lasting about 5-7 hours, including lunch. On the quieter stretches of river, no experience is necessary, but there are also wilder sections for the experienced rafter. Being able to swim is helpful, but not a necessity, as all guests are provided with a Coast Guard approved Type V Life Jacket, Paddle, and Helmet.
