The Millman N.R.G. Foundation is Breaking Barriers Through Golf

The Millman N.R.G. Foundation, a charitable project sponsored by United Charitable Programs (UCP), will be hosting a golf clinic on May 16, 2013 at the Whispering Willows Golf Course to increase participation in the game of golf for those with a disability or physical limitation.

Livonia, MI, April 10, 2013 --(PR.com)-- According to the Americans with Disabilities Census Bureau, approximately 57 million people have a disability (2012). Scott Millman, co-founder of the Millman N.R.G. Foundation at UCP, is inspiring and encouraging those with disabilities to play golf. Millman and his wife, Teresa, created this foundation to not only share their love of golf with others, but to also make it a game accessible for all, regardless of physical or mental limitations.

On May 16, 2013, the Millman N.R.G. Foundation will be hosting “Barrier Breaking Golf,” an event to help raise awareness and increase participation in the game of golf for those that have a disability or a physical limitation. This free event will be held at the Whispering Willows Golf Club, located at 20500 Newburgh Road, Livonia, MI 48152 from 3 PM – 5 PM.

Barrier Breaking Golf is designed to improve golf skills. Attendees will receive assistance from trained professionals, including Scott Millman, an Accessible Golf Instructor, as well as a United States Golf Teachers Federation (USGTF) Master Golf Professional with over 20 years of teaching and playing experience.

Space is limited to the first 50 golfers that sign up. To register for this event or for additional information, please send an email to Teresa@thesimpleworldofgolf.com. All levels and abilities are welcome. Registration must be completed by May 9, 2013 to participate.

Millman named his foundation, Millman N.R.G. (No Restrictions Golf) Foundation because he believes that there are therapeutic benefits from participating in a game of golf regardless of ability. “It offers social interaction, as well as physical and emotional benefits,” Millman said. Not only will participants gain from health benefits, but the program also aims to improve their quality of life.

The mission of the Millman N.R.G. Foundation is to increase participation of persons with disabilities in the game of golf while transforming lives by providing a therapeutic approach to golf by creating a program for persons of all ages, disabilities, economic background, along with inner-city youth, disadvantaged and under-privileged youth; while assisting them with their emotional, cognitive, physical and social development.

Millman N.R.G. Foundation is sponsored by UCP, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit fiscal sponsor of active charitable programs. Through UCP, Millman is able to focus solely on his program’s charitable mission, rather than on the administrative burdens that an independent nonprofit can have. All donations to the Millman N.R.G. Foundation are tax-deductible. For more information about the Millman N.R.G. Foundation please visit their website at http://www.norestrictionsgolf.org.
