Broken Wood Boards Auctioned on eBay

Columbus, OH, August 15, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Several broken wood boards of the "Breaking for the Record, Breaking for the Cure" event to be held on Saturday, August 18, 2007 in Columbus, Ohio will be auctioned off on eBay. The event is an attempt by a 6th Degree Black Belt Master in Taekwondo to shatter the current world record by breaking 10,000 wood boards in one hour. The event is being held to benefit breast cancer research. To put it in perspective, the current world record is 3,014 wood boards broken by one person in one hour. For one person to break the 10,000 wood boards, they will need to break approximately 167 boards per minute. Master Mitch Ellis, owner of Dragon E's Black Belt Academy of Westerville, Ohio, is the person attempting this phenomenal feat.

"The pieces of wood to be auctioned off online on eBay will be specifically the first and the last boards that I break at the event", added Master Ellis. This unique event has generated interest from local news media, businesses and the community. At the "Breaking for the Record, Breaking for the Cure" event there will be food and beverage sales, live music, martial arts demonstrations and performances by national cheer and dance championship teams. The public will have the opportunity to purchase T-shirts, breast cancer bracelets, participate in a raffle and a live auction of the commemorative belt worn by Mater Ellis for this event. The money from the eBay auction and other proceeds will benefit the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center-James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.

Helping the Stefanie Spielman Fund is very important to Master Ellis because several people, from a sibling to friends, have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Master Ellis stated, "Being able to raise funds for awareness of this disease is my mission; the more people that are informed of what they can do to prevent cancer, the better chance we have of saving people's lives." Having been involved with Martial Arts since 1973, Senior Master Ellis has trained thousands and has promoted several hundred students to the rank of black belt. Additionally, Master Ellis currently holds the world records for 100 wood boards broken in 9.7 seconds and 480 boards in 1 minute, all to raise money for cancer research.
