Jim Dodson Participates in Tour de Cure to Support Diabetes Research

Lakewood Ranch, FL, April 20, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Jim Dodson participated in the American Diabetes Association’s (ADA) Tour de Cure in Lakewood Ranch to support diabetes research. The event had 681 riders and helped the ADA raise over $220,000 for research for the disease that currently affects over 18 million Americans.

Dodson, an avid cyclist and vocal advocate for bicycle safety, sponsored and cycled 35 miles in the event. He then met with other cyclists and gave away Road ID gift cards, good for the purchase of Road ID, cycling safety identification bracelets.

He also gave away free copies of his books of interest to cyclists, The Florida Bicycle Accident Handbook and Uninsured Motorist Insurance—Don’t Leave Home Without It! The books discuss the importance of knowing how to prevent a bicycle accident, what to do after an accident occurs, and the insurance coverage no Florida cyclist should be without.

Tour de Cure is the largest cycling event for diabetes in the country. Tours are held in 44 states nationwide, and all the events combined raised $23 million in 2012.

“I support Tour de Cure, and I would encourage any Florida cyclist to participate in next year’s event. It is rewarding to support diabetes research and meet new cycling friends, while practicing safe biking. I commend the ADA for making it mandatory for the Tour’s participants to wear helmets. Florida has the highest bicycle accident fatality rate in the U.S., and if we continually educate cyclists on safety skills, we can reduce the number of Florida’s biking fatalities,” said Dodson.
