Evan Guthrie Law Firm Speaks About Legal Profession at Sangaree Middle School Career Day in South Carolina

Charleston, SC, April 24, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Evan Guthrie of the Evan Guthrie Law Firm in Charleston, South Carolina visited Sangaree Middle School in Ladson, SC for their career day on Wednesday February 27th, 2013. Attorney Evan Guthrie spoke to three different groups of students in a rotating schedule of sessions that lasted a half hour each in duration. This is the first time that Mr. Guthrie had the opportunity to visit Sangaree Middle and speak to the students. Attorney Guthrie spoke about his experiences as a lawyer including his path to become one including his days in middle school and how the habits he learned there transitioned to the rest of his academic career, how high school was different from middle school and the skills and classes that best prepared him for a career in law, how the college process worked and the how to best navigate through it to be ready for the legal profession, how law school worked and the challenges and bright spots about it, the bar exam and how it worked to license lawyers, how a new lawyer acclimates themselves to practicing law, what the daily schedule and tasks are like for an attorney, the best and hardest parts about a life in law, and how a lawyer interacts with clients, courts, and the community at large. Mr. Guthrie took questions from students that included the usual how much do you get paid and what kind of car do you drive, but also quality questions as how a lawyer chooses what cases and clients to take, how much paperwork a lawyer does for different types of cases, what is the most entertaining case that you have been a part have, and how much free time a lawyer has and what do they do in that time. Attorney Guthrie enjoyed his visit to the career day and being able to represent the legal profession and provide a real and honest perspective to students that may have an interest. Although the students were in middle school and would have at least eleven more years of school, more years than they had been in school up to that point, there is much they could learn that may have an impact at a later time. Mr. Guthrie looked forward to being able to return and speak at the career day in the following year as part of service to the community.
