Third Annual Spring to Life Contest Will Send Grand Prize Winner on Vegan Getaway to Portland, Oregon.

Boulder, CO, April 27, 2013 --(, an Earth Balance-hosted online community devoted to people who are passionate about cooking with natural ingredients, has launched its Third Annual “Spring to Life” Vegan Recipe Contest. The competition runs from April 15 – May 12 and asks cooks nationwide to enter their best plant-based recipes made with at least one Earth Balance® product for the chance to win the grand prize—an all-expenses paid getaway for two to vegan paradise Portland, Oregon; a 2-night stay at an eco-friendly hotel, $1000 in spending cash, a gourmet dinner at Natural Selection; a $25 gift certificate from Herbivore Clothing; a $30 credit at Sweet Pea Baking Co., dinner for two at Homegrown Smoker, and other gift certificates to use on the trip.

Winners will be announced the week of May 20, 2013.

Entrants to the recipe contest can qualify in four categories: entrees, appetizers and side dishes, desserts, and beverages. “As we’ve seen for the past two years, spring is the perfect time for sprouting new vegan recipes,” said Duane Primozich, senior vice president general manager of Earth Balance. “Our members’ culinary talent is exceptional—their plant-based dishes are just as delicious, if not more so, than those made with traditional ingredients.”

Serving as guest judge is Carolyn Scott-Hamilton of the four-week contest, Scott-Hamilton and Made Just Right’s culinary experts will evaluate recipes based on appeal (50%), ease of preparation (25%) and creativity (25%) to select 2 winners in each category, for a total of 8. Each winner will receive year’s supply of Earth Balance® products, a $100 Whole Foods Market gift card—and the opportunity to win the Grand Prize.

To qualify, recipes must be plant-based, contain an Earth Balance® product, including spreads, sticks, nut butters, soymilk, and alternative mayo, and feature one or more vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, nuts, or seeds. Each week entrants will compete to have the top recipes in different categories April 15th - May 12th.
