NPSA Fights Heat Wave with Cool Storage Units

The National Portable Storage Association is helping organizations fight off record-setting heat waves with innovative solutions that keep people and products cool.

Kansas City, MO, August 17, 2007 --(PR.com)-- With a heat wave bringing triple-digit temperatures from the plains through the Southeast, air conditioning is hardly a luxury. It's a necessity, as unbearable climates land scores of people in the emergency room with heat exhaustion and heat strokes. Portable storage vendors are ready with climate-controlled, AKA, air-conditioned units.

"Portable storage isn't just hot metal boxes anymore. Today's technology makes room for powerful air conditioning units to keep the contents of the unit cool, whether those contents are people or perishable items," said John Finnessy, CMP, Executive Director the National Portable Storage Association, or NPSA, a nonprofit membership association dedicated to the advancement of the portable storage industry.

A construction site, for example, could make good use of air conditioned portable storage units as break rooms that let the crew cool off in the hottest parts of the day. Air conditioned portable storage, by likewise, could be used to store temperature-sensitive products, collectibles, pharmaceuticals or other goods. The food industry is a prime candidate, with perishable items that require on-site cold storage to keep food fresh and readily available during peak seasons.

More than just a portable air conditioner, a portable storage unit modified to include an air conditioner can also serve as a makeshift office, portable classroom, temporary living facility during hurricanes that displace families, trailers for film sets, and any other application that demands a cool environment. Combined with an interior fit that includes carpet, shelving, and lights, portable storage units can be quickly transformed from a steel box to a livable environment.

"Portable storage containers can serve as a comfortable and affordable way to keep people and products cool even in record heat waves," said NPSA Operations Manager Joel Rathbone. "You can purchase portable storage containers, or simply lease them for special needs or peak seasons. These units truly do offer the ultimate flexibility."
