Cash for Trash on Green Up Day - Event at Twin City Subaru Benefits Berlin Elementary School Playground Fundraiser

Berlin, VT, May 03, 2013 --(PR.com)-- For every pound of Green Up Day trash collected and brought to Twin City Subaru this Saturday, May 4, a donation will be made for a new playground at Berlin Elementary School.

An official Green Up Day sponsor and Central Vermont’s designated bag pick-up and drop-off site, Twin City Subaru hopes the Cash for Trash event will encourage more Vermonters to pitch in and green up Vermont this year. Twin City Subaru’s total donation to the school will equal the cost of Green Up Day trash removal.

“At Twin City Subaru, we are always looking for ways to help our community. The Green Up Day Cash for Trash event is a win-win for the environment and for the kids who deserve the opportunity to be outside enjoying it,” said Dave Birmingham, owner of Twin City Subaru.

The Green Up Day Cash for Trash event will run from 8 am – 3 pm on Saturday May 4th. Bags can be picked up ahead of time at Twin City Subaru or on the day of the event. Free food, t-shirts, and gloves will also be available for Green Up Day volunteers this Saturday. There will also be a bottle drive to benefit the playground. Event details can be found online at www.twincitysubaru.com/green-up-vermont.htm

To get the kids some extra funding, Twin City Subaru is also offering a charity check-in special on Green Up Day: $1 donation per check-in on Facebook or Foursquare.

About the Playground Fundraiser

The playground fundraiser was started by six 5th graders at Berlin Elementary School, who took the initiative to approach their principal with playground improvement and fundraising ideas. As they note in a video showing the playground at http://youtu.be/Arl6W60XQ1k, most of the current equipment is decades old, and some potentially dangerous. While these needs had been identified in the past, tight budgets have prevented the work from taking place.

The school is trying to raise a total of $18,000 for a new, safe, and modern playground. Twin City Subaru donation will help them reach their goal, but anyone wishing to donate directly to the fundraiser can do so at the Green Up Day event, or mail a check to Berlin Elementary School with “Playground Fundraiser” in the subject line.

About Green Up Day

Green Up Day started in Vermont in 1970. Vermont was the first state to designate an annual day to clean up the entire state. Gov. Deane C.
