Dick Hannah Subaru Receives Eco-Friendly Dealer Award from Subaru of America

Vancouver, WA, May 16, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Dick Hannah Subaru is one of the first dealerships in the United States to be recognized for their environmental stewardship by receiving Subaru of America’s Subaru Eco-Friendly Dealer Award. This award is only given to top Subaru dealers after they meet the strict requirements of a point-based inspection in five areas of conservation: energy efficiency, water conservation, recycling, waste management and community involvement.

For the dealership to achieve Subaru Eco-Friendly Dealer status, they organized an environmental team comprised of individuals from each department. The team planned and implemented the necessary changes and upgrades to the facility.

Dick Hannah Subaru met requirements in five key areas to win the award:

· Energy Efficiency
Installing devices such as motion detectors, energy efficient light bulbs and programmable thermostats helped to reduce energy usage at the dealership.
· Water Conservation
Staff reduced water consumption by installing low flow faucet and toilets and water efficient landscaping equipment.
· Waste Management
Local, state and federal law requires the proper storage and disposal of items, such as oil, coolant, tires and batteries. Hazardous wastes when disposed of improperly (pouring wastes down the drain, on the ground, into storm sewers, or putting them out with the trash) can have a negative effect on human health, local wildlife and the environment. Dick Hannah Subaru makes sure that all hazardous materials and substances are properly disposed of to help ensure that no harm will come to the environment, wildlife or people living in the community they serve.
· Community involvement
Caring about the environment extends beyond the dealership. Employees are involved in environmental community programs to help prevent and protect our natural resources.
· Recycling
By recycling material such as paper, metal, cardboard and plastic, Dick Hannah Subaru helped to divert large amounts of material from landfills.
