DormCo Survey Reveals Worst High School Graduation Gifts — And Best Alternatives

DormCo.com conducted a survey of recent high school grads to find the worst high school graduation gifts while providing much better-liked alternatives.

Buffalo, NY, May 19, 2013 --(PR.com)-- With high school graduation season underway, Dormco.com, the leading online dorm supplies superstore, spoke with hundreds of recent high school grads to determine one thing: What are the worst high school graduation gifts out there? Many of the answers were consistent, from cash-less congratulation cards to mundane picture frames.

Picture frames are a go-to gift for any occasion … which is precisely why they don’t make the best gifts. They’re also, as many recent graduates described them, “boring.” Yet picture frames don’t have to be boring or viewed as gifts to discard. DormCo offers a variety of picture frames that aren’t your everyday black frames. Since photos of friends and family are such universal dorm decorations, DormCo’s stickable wall photo frames are much more colorful and fun than standard ones. And since some students said they don’t want any picture frames, DormCo carries other college wall decor items, from Peel ‘N Stick decorations to posters for college, that are all much more exciting than regular photo frames.

Also on the list of not-so-popular high school graduation gifts were books on how to succeed; perhaps it’s that students wanted more first-hand experience than mere advice. Either way, succeeding in college starts with having a properly equipped dorm room. The right supplies for college make college life more convenient, which allows students to focus on doing their best while at school. To succeed, students can’t be left worrying that they don’t have all the essential dorm supplies needed. To make sure no dorm essentials are missed, DormCo carries a variety of college supplies packages that have all the needed dorm bedding, college laundry supplies, and other dorm accessories. Buying in bulk lets students save both money and time, and college shopping kits make dorm shopping much more convenient. Plus, not having to worry about dorm supplies means students can focus on success in other areas, which is exactly what success-oriented books want anyway.

Although it seems college students are beyond the age range, teddy bears wearing “Class of 2014” shirts were commonly reported unwanted graduation gifts. Should a student bring a teddy bear to college, he or she will be bound to be on the receiving end of a few jokes from roommates. Instead of teddy bears, students can still receive the same comfort from a much comfier alternative: plush comforters. DormCo’s plush twin XL comforters have a soft, stuffed-animal feel to them. Students will be covered in comfort, as opposed to having to just snuggle up with a small teddy bear. Plush extra-long twin comforters from DormCo come in a variety of colors and they’re all thick, warm, and designed to fit with twin xl beds.

Students have also said that they understandably don’t like to receive empty graduation cards. Cards are always a nice thought, however it is also nice to receive some funding, as college is an expensive endeavor. While cash and checks can seem slightly impersonal, gift cards are always a nice alternative. At DormCo, gift cards can be sent via email or via regular mail as a physical gift card. Instead of a blank congratulations card, a gift card will always make a more exciting graduation gift that’s sure not to make a worst-of graduation gift list.
