The Gruenenfelder Educational Fund is a fund that was set up for Cory Gruenenfelder’s four children after he drowned in Carlyle Lake on August 25th of last year.

Gruenenfelder lost his life in the lake when his friend, Mike Septeowski, fell into the lake and began to drown. Gruenenfelder valiantly attempted to save Septeowski, but because of the incredibly windy conditions that day, they were unable to reach the boat, and both were dragged underwater. The Keyesport Rescue & Dive Team assisted the men’s family and recovered the men’s bodies a few days later.

“Cory’s family is in desperate need of funding, especially since he left behind four children,” said Tom Gerke, General Manager of Jack Schmitt Chevrolet. “Also, the man whom Cory tried to save, Michael, is my nephew, so this hits quite close to home for me as well.”

“It’s not often that you can participate in a local event to help local people, so I hope that everyone will do what they can to come out to enjoy a great time on the course while supporting a wonderful cause,” said Gerke.

All are greatly encouraged to come out to support, sponsor, and play for this worthy cause. Checks can be made payable to Jack Schmitt Chevrolet, the event’s sponsor. Players are asked to mail checks and registration forms to the dealership, giving attention to Laura or Linda.
