Long Island, NY, June 30, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The Mind Body Spirit Expo, Long Island’s Stress Management and Health Expo, is approaching and the event’s producer, GEM Media Marketing, has named the Maurer Foundation sole recipient of all proceeds. The Maurer Foundation is a Long Island-based non-profit organization dedicated to saving lives through breast health education, and this charitable event will benefit its programs, which are funded solely through donations.

The Expo will be held at Carlyle on the Green, located at 99 Quaker Meeting House Road within Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, on July 24 between the hours of 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. The entire evening will be dedicated to health and wellness, a perfect match for the Maurer Foundation’s mission of inspiring women to make positive choices with regard to their minds, bodies and spirits with the specific goal of improving breast health.

Among the many demonstrations, workshops, lectures and presentations that will be featured at the Expo are several that correlate directly with breast cancer prevention, addressing risk factors such as obesity, poor diet, lack of exercise and smoking. The Maurer Foundation stresses these areas as those that can be controlled through wise decisions and actions. Additionally, the event’s keynote speaker, women's health advocate Dr. Neeta Shah, will also be one of the honorees at the Maurer Foundation’s upcoming Pink Diamond Dinner on October 17th.

Nutrition, weight control, and vegan cooking activities led by professionals tie in with the Maurer Foundation’s recommendation to follow a healthy diet and reduce fats and sugars. Guidance relevant to exercise, recreation and yoga – including a form designed specifically for breast health – will help guests maintain a healthy weight, another way to help reduce the risk of breast cancer. Wellness behavior experts will also cover lifestyle choices such as smoking cessation, which can play a role in lowering the chances of several medical issues.

All of the event’s featured topics are geared toward de-stressing. Attendees will learn how stress impacts health, what causes it, and ways to manage it. Other presenters will teach attendees about various relaxation techniques including progressive muscle, deep breathing, meditation and biofeedback; organizational strategies such as time management, goal-setting, prioritizing and problem-solving; relationship skills related to assertiveness/self-confidence, listening and networking; and health perceptions associated with hardiness, faith/acceptance, self-talk and imagery.

In addition to Dr. Shah, experts will include: Marianne LiBretto, B.S., M.A., L.M.H.C; Mental Health & Wellness Expert; Michele Curcio, Energy Therapy & Reiki Practitioner; Soke Joseph Droual, NY Martial Artist and Master of Tai Chi Chuan; Janet Russell, Psychic/Medium/Spiritual Advisor; Diana Ross, E-RYT 500 CYT; Founder of Breast Cancer Yoga; Kelli Roberts, Vegan Chef & Health Nutrition Counselor; and Cynthia Shankman, Aromatherapist.

Over 50 exhibitors and vendors will be present as well, highlighting topics such as holistic health, personal growth, natural weight loss, nutrition, hot yoga, massage, spirituality, meditation, psychics, Reiki, Tai Chi and aromatherapy. The evening will also include dance entertainment, with a special guest performance by the Ghada Girls. Beginning at 8:30 p.m., an after-party will be held in the park where guests are invited to enjoy food, cocktails and live music from That ‘70’s Band.

Sponsors of the Mind Body Spirit Expo include GEM Magazine; 106.1 BLI Long Island; Wild by Nature Market; Carlyle on the Green; Cedar Knolls; Skin In2ition; Cactus Salon; the New York Islanders; Leone Homes; Long Island Professional Women's Network and Suffolk Water Connections, Inc.

The Maurer Foundation is honored to be receiving all proceeds from this event, which will support breast health education programs and, in the grand scheme of things, reach many Long Island women with critical information. The Foundation’s educational programs are presented to schools, businesses, community organizations and other groups. Volunteer educators emphasize the ways to reduce breast cancer risks, clarify facts from myths, discuss early detection and its role in increasing survival and much more. They stress the importance of examinations in identifying breast cancer in its beginning phases, often utilizing a silicone model to demonstrate how to correctly conduct breast self-examinations.

As many women are under-informed in the subject of breast cancer, the Maurer Foundation’s presentations can play a significant role in saving lives. The Foundation is greatly appreciative of its donors who have made it possible to offer and sustain these educational programs over the years.
