Belle Chevre Cheesecake and Honey Breakfast Cheese Sweep Sofi™ Awards

Two of the food industry's biggest awards went to Belle Chevre, the artisan goat cheese creamery. Their goat cheese cheesecake, along with their Belle & The Bees honey breakfast cheese, were recognized as the best products of 2013.

Elkmont, AL, July 04, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The Specialty Food Association awarded two Belle Chevre products with the coveted 2013 Sofi™ Gold yesterday, effectively proclaiming the excellence and dominance of the artisan goat cheese brand. Belle Chevre’s Goat Cheese Cheesecake was awarded the gold in the Baked Good, Baking Ingredient, or Cereal category. The Belle & The Bees Breakfast Cheese won gold in the Diet & Lifestyle category, complimenting its previous sofi™ Silver for Outstanding New Product.

This year's contest was the largest in its 41-year history, with specialty food makers submitting 2,573 products across all 32 awards categories. A Sofi™ Award is the top honor in the $86 billion specialty food industry. Belle Chevre’s Goat Cheese Cheesecake is a lighter, delicious alternative to a cream cheese-based cheesecake, and was released in 2012 to acclaim from the likes of The New York Times. Belle & The Bees Breakfast Cheese is a sweet, creamy goat cheese that is blended with Tupelo honey to make a delicious breakfast or any-time-of-day spread. Belle Chevre has previously won sofi™ Silvers for its Fig and Belle & The Bees Breakfast Cheeses.

“A Sofi™ Gold is the highest honor in the fine food industry,” said Tasia Malakasis. “The fact that a small goat cheese creamery like ours has been recognized as one of the best in the nation is something I am very proud to say.” This year’s Sofi™ judging was done by a national panel of specialty food professionals along with votes from more than 150 buyers at the Summer Fancy Food Show.

The Sofi Awards are open to members of the NASFT, a not-for-profit trade association established in 1952 for food artisans, importers and entrepreneurs with more than 2,900 members throughout the U.S. and abroad. “Sofi” stands for Specialty Outstanding Food Innovation.
