)-- WK Dickson & Co., Inc. recently announced that Dan Dawson, PE, PLS, the firm’s Vice President and Manager of the Wilmington Regional Office, has received the Distinguished Service Award from the Professional Engineers of North Carolina (PENC). This award is given each year to a PENC member who has had a significant positive impact on the engineering profession and the society at the local and state levels.
Mr. Dawson has more than 35 years of experience in the engineering industry providing consulting services for federal, state and local governmental organizations as well as private industries and commercial developers. He holds the rare distinction of being licensed as both a Professional Engineer and a Professional Land Surveyor in the State of North Carolina.

Mr. Dawson has been an active and influential member of PENC for nearly his entire career having served as chairman of the PENC Registration Law & Ethical Practices Committee, Math Counts Committee, and most recently as the Regional Vice Chairman of the NSPE Professional Engineers Private Practice Committee. In 2009 Mr. Dawson was named a Fellow by NSPE and PENC.
In addition to his many years of service with PENC, Mr. Dawson also serves the coastal Carolina region as an active member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary where he holds the rank of Aircraft Commander. He has also served as a member of the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees; Manager of the North Carolina Sedimentation Control Committee; and is currently the Commissioner of the Wilmington Planning Commission.
