Golden Foodie Awards Announces the 2013 Golden Sweets

Newport Beach, CA, July 25, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The 2013 Golden Foodie Awards is pleased to reveal four star-studded treats: “The Golden Affogato,” “Midas Tart,” “The Golden Velvet Cupcake,” and “Bonbons of Gold,” crafted exclusively in honor of this year’s ceremony. The decadent “Golden Affogato” and “Midas Tart” will be available at Kean Coffee locations. The “Golden Velvet Cupcake,” will be available as featured menu item at Casey’s Cupcakes leading up to the 2013 Golden Foodie Awards gala on September 29, 2013 where the rich and sinful “Bonbons of Gold” from Valenza Chocolatier will be premiered. These beautiful chocolates will be available for purchase beginning October 1, 2013.

Kean Coffee, a popular coffeehouse in Orange County, handcrafted the “Golden Affogato,” to be served exclusively at Kean Coffee Newport Beach and Tustin locations. This red-carpet ready menu item features a single shot of Kean’s smooth espresso pulled and poured immediately over the top of a generous scoop of Lola’s local artisan vanilla ice cream, then finished with chocolate shavings and a salty caramel drizzle.

The “Midas Tart,” created by last year’s Golden Pastry Chef winner Chef Rachel Klemek, is not for the faint of heart. This mouthwatering treat features a layer of dark chocolate ganache cradled in a chocolate tart shell, topped with toasted almonds, plump dates, orange zest, rosewater caramel and finished with a grand finale of gold dusted almonds. This richly flavored tart is available at Kean Coffee and can be found at Blackmarket Bakery at The Camp in Costa Mesa, where Chef Klemek resides, creating one-of-a-kind desserts combining traditional European techniques with exotic flavors.

Casey’s Cupcakes will feature the official cupcake of the Golden Foodie Awards, the “Golden Velvet Cupcake.” This commanding confection is made of moist red velvet cake topped with light, creamy frosting and adorned with 24 carat gold dust, glamorous gold glitter and gold-covered candy pearls.
