Tina Shanahan Wins 2007 Excellence in Mentoring Award

Raleigh, NC, September 01, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Be Active North Carolina, Inc. a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health of all North Carolinians, has announced that Tina Shanahan, president and chief executive officer, has been awarded the 2007 Triangle Business Journal’s Excellence In Mentoring Award, presented by RBC Centura. The award was presented to one of the 25 Women in Business Award winners for making a difference in the life of a child through active participation in an organized youth mentoring program or organization. Shanahan received this award at a luncheon and awards ceremony at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel in Durham on Aug. 9.

“I am proud to receive this award in the company of such inspiring women,” said Shanahan. “I believe one of the most important responsibilities we have as successful women is giving back and mentoring children for their future.”

Tina Shanahan has been the president of Be Active North Carolina, Inc. since 2006 and continues to direct the non-profit organization in creating awareness about health in North Carolina. Shanahan started her career as a military nurse and served in Operation Desert Storm in 1990. Upon her return, she served as director of strategic development for Blue Cross and Blue Shield and spent a decade on Capitol Hill as an advocate for Paralyzed Veterans of American in the House of Representatives and the Senate. In 2002 and 2005, she was called back into active duty. Presently, she is using her passion for health care through Be Active by serving as president and chief executive officer.
