The Villa at the JDT Resort Medical Rehab Center Supports National Immunization Month
Lincoln Park, NJ, August 18, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Recognizing the vital importance of getting vaccinated, The Villa at the Jerry and Dolores Turco Resort Medical Rehab Center is attempting to spread the word to as many community members as possible. After all, August is National Immunization Month and there is no reason anyone should not be vaccinated.
Every year, countless Americans never get properly vaccinated and are at a health risk. As a result, The Villa at JDT is doing all it can to change that reality by spreading the message of vaccination, especially to the elder population. Without proper vaccination, diseases like influenza, pneumonia and shingles can easily spread. Vaccinations are made widely available through local pharmacies and community events and are mostly covered by Medicare.
To guard against the flu, authorities recommend yearly vaccinations for all Americans ages six months and up. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) says that 90 percent of the 36,000 Americans who die annually from infection from the seasonal flu virus are 65 and older. The CDC estimates that most of the 225,000 people hospitalized because of the seasonal flu are over 65.
Furthermore, the Center for Disease Control recommends all adults over the age of 65 receive a yearly pneumococcal vaccine and that all adults get a Td booster shot every 10 years. It is of vital importance that these shots are received on the correct schedule.
“Our seniors need to be fully educated on the benefits of getting vaccinated and the dangers of not receiving those immunizations. With all the knowledge out there today, there is no reason for anyone to not be correctly informed,” noted Toni Loyas, Chief Operating Officer at JDT.
