Bayer CropScience Sponsors U.S. Delegates at Inaugural Global Youth Ag Summit

Crop Science Company Sponsors 20 Youth Seeking to Solve Global Hunger at International Event.

Research Triangle Park, NC, August 22, 2013 --(PR.com)-- As part of its ongoing commitment to feeding a hungry planet, Bayer CropScience LP is sponsoring 20 youth from the United States to attend the first global 4-H Youth Ag-Summit, which kicks off today and runs through Aug. 25 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The summit, sponsored by Bayer CropScience Canada and 4-H Canada, brings together 120 international youth, ages 18 to 25, to cultivate ideas to solve the world’s most pressing food issues.

“We are excited to be involved with this first-of-its-kind event that brings together the brightest young minds in agriculture from around the world, and we are happy to have selected and sponsored the 20 U.S. delegates and four of their mentors in attendance,” said Jim Blome, president and CEO of Bayer CropScience LP. “Through this summit, Bayer CropScience hopes to build an international dialogue to secure lasting solutions to global issues. We need to act now to ensure there will be enough healthy, nutritious food to feed everyone tomorrow.”

During the event, delegates, along with 25 mentors, will engage with guest speakers, participate in debates and network with one another to build sustainable food strategies for farming’s future. Each attendee will work toward developing personal and actionable agricultural solutions that they will take home. Business leaders, elected officials and agricultural experts will also be in attendance to help inspire, challenge and encourage delegates to think big.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for these delegates,” added Blome. “While the future of agriculture looks bright, there are certain issues that we face, such as climate change, population growth, energy demands, and the need for high-quality, healthy and affordable food. We need new and fresh thinking to cultivate answers to these problems, and the future relies on these young minds.”
