Marlborough Works! Initiative Gives Local Jobseekers Local Opportunities

Free Resume & Interview Workshop and Job Fair Aim to Jumpstart Local Employment.

Marlborough, MA, August 23, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The Marlborough Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), in conjunction with the City of Marlborough and Quinsigamond Community College (QCC), is preparing to host the second annual Marlborough Works! Job Fair on September 24th, 2013.

The event, which aims to connect local employers with qualified jobseekers, will take place from 6pm to 8:30pm at the Courtyard by Marriott-Marlborough Ballroom. Dozens of companies representing various industries, including Healthcare, Manufacturing, Hospitality, Retail, Medical Technology, Education, Defense, Technology, Banking, Sales and Marketing, and Alternative Energy, are expected to take part.

Ahead of the fair, on September 4th, the MEDC and QCC will also hold a free professional Résumé and Interview Workshop for interested job seekers. A QCC instructor will guide attendees through the topics, which will include creating an effective résumé, landing the interview, avoiding key résumé and job application killers, answering “problem” questions and ultimately obtaining a fulfilling career with a local employer.

The workshop will be held from 7pm to 9pm at the Marlborough High School Science Lecture Hall. It is open to all area residents, but spaces are limited to the first 40 respondents. All those who attend the workshop will receive priority registration and admission to the Job Fair, giving them first access to employers.

The Job Fair and the Resume Workshop are both part of the Marlborough Works! initiative, which Mayor Arthur Vigeant introduced last year to help jumpstart local employment. Both events are free for all individuals and businesses.

Last year, more than 500 jobseekers and 30 companies, looking to fill close to 100 positions, took part in the Marlborough Works! Job Fair.

“I am thrilled to see the Marlborough Works! Job Fair back this year,” said Mayor Arthur Vigeant. “This initiative is all about connecting local people to local jobs. Based on the overwhelmingly positive response from both residents and employers last year, we hope to build on that success and provide fresh opportunities to jobseekers and companies alike.”

"We are so proud to be spearheading this event for a second year in a row," said the MEDC Executive Director, Tim Cummings. "It's not just about connecting jobseekers with employers. It's about keeping our local economy thriving, by helping local residents fill local job openings."
