Bangalore Based Startup Promotes Women Sporting Moustaches for Gender Equality

Social discovery platform, Wooplr, launches the Moustache Campaign as an attempt at promoting gender equality by breaking social stereotypes and carries out a Moustache walk to spread awareness to the masses.

Bangalore, India, September 04, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Bangalore based social discovery platform Wooplr.com held a week long Moustache Campaign leading up to Women’s Equality Day. The campaign aimed at promoting gender equality amongst common folk using the moustache as a symbol of liberation and equality for the females.

Wooplr says the campaign was inspired by a popular fashion trend where women sport the moustache on their clothing and accessories. The fashion trend became a hot topic of discussion. The campaign consisted of two main parts, the photo quote album and the Moochie Walk.

Participants in the campaign were asked to send in photographs of themselves sporting a moustache or a tuft of hair across their face along with their personal opinion on the moustache. Using this content photo quotes were created and shared with all the users on Wooplr’s Facebook page, lending an awareness regarding what the moustache symbolises to women.

Participants in the campaign also joined them for the Moochie Walk where women sported a fake moustache and spoke to people regarding societal stereotypes on gender and questioned them on the importance of women empowerment and liberation. The walk took place in the central business district of Bangalore city at peak hours.

Wooplr, an year old social discovery platform where people discover and share shopping finds in fashion, decor and food from places around them based on interest & location, held the campaign to provide to provide a voice to the clientele of Wooplr. A major chunk of the users are self actualised women looking at businesses, shopping and recommending their finds to their social circle.

The campaign hit it off with the women folk involved and attracted the attention of movers and shakers around town. Participants and the people contacted said that it was educational and liberating as an experience. The moustache does seem to have become a symbol of equality in fashion for the women on Wooplr.
