Emmy Award-winning CNN anchor and correspondent Randi Kaye will be the Master of Ceremonies at children's charity Friends of Karen's "An Evening at Tribeca Rooftop" benefit gala, which will honor Jody and J Durst.

North Salem, NY, September 12, 2013 --(PR.com)-- A breathtaking panorama of Manhattan and beyond is the setting for Friends of Karen’s gala benefit, “An Evening at Tribeca Rooftop.” Friends of Karen provides vital, practical and comprehensive support, at no cost, to families in the Tri-State region who are caring for a child with a life-threatening illness. The event takes place on Tuesday, October 1, at Tribeca Rooftop in Manhattan, and will honor Jonathan (Jody) and J Durst for their unwavering dedication to the families Friends of Karen helps.

Mr. Durst is President of The Durst Organization, a real estate corporation committed to sustainable buildings, whose properties include One World Trade Center, 4 Times Square, and One Bryant Park. In honor of the occasion, 4 Times Square and One Bryant Park will be lit with Friends of Karen’s signature colors of magenta, amber and plum. Mrs. Durst is currently Treasurer of Friends of Karen’s Board of Directors, which she joined in 2003.

Randi Kaye, Emmy Award-winning anchor and correspondent for CNN/U.S., will be the Master of Ceremonies. Since joining CNN in December 2004, she has covered an array of key news stories in addition to providing in-depth investigative reports. In 2013 alone she covered the Presidential Inauguration, the LAPD manhunt for Christopher Dorner, the George Zimmerman murder trial, the Baby Veronica custody battle, and the Boston Marathon bombing, among other stories.

“Friends of Karen is a true lifeline for families when their lives are turned upside down by their child’s devastating diagnosis,” Ms. Kaye says. “Friends of Karen gives them the emotional and financial support they need to stay strong together during the most difficult experience imaginable.”

“When illness-related expenses soar and the daily emotional toll of caring for a very sick child becomes unmanageable, families turn to Friends of Karen,” says Judith Factor, Executive Director of Friends of Karen. “We help free our families of everyday needs and concerns, so they have more time to love.”
