)-- The Legends return to wow the crowd with a superstar tennis championship.
Ticket sales starts this week on September 15th.
In less than three months, Dubai will host some of the regions benchmark sporting events: ‘The Legends “Rock” Dubai”. Now in its third year the event has not only caught the imagination of the UAE public, but most important once again the attention of world’s most famous and successful tennis players. Players like former world #1 and winner of four Grand Slam titles Jim Courier or former world #2 Goran Ivanisevic are keen to participate. Among other tennis luminaries like Thomas Muster, Pat Cash, Michael Stich, Paul Haarhuis, Mikael Pernfors and Mansour Bahrami both are confirmed players for this years event.
In 2005 The Legends “Rock” Dubai became the first indoor tennis exhibition in the GCC and featured former greats such as Björn Borg, Ilie Nâstase, Mansour Bahrami and Henri Leconte in front of a capacity crowd of over 3,000 spectators at the Madinat Arena. Following on from the immense success of that event, the crowds returned for a historic second edition which brought the curtain down on the epic rivalry of Borg and John McEnroe as they officially went head to head in a singles match for the final time. Now in its third year running, The Legends “Rock” Dubai has matured into a top professional seniors tennis tournament by joining the Outback Champions Series. The Legends “Rock” Dubai will be the final tournament of seven events on the 2007 Outback Champions series, a series featuring the greatest names in tennis over the age of 30.
The Legends “Rock” Dubai is organized by Delwood Sports Marketing. Great developments have been made to enhance Delwood’s leading role in staging the best champions’ tennis competition in the region through the support of this years sponsors: Rolex, Lacoste, Cacharel, Easy Property Group, Dubai Sports City, InterContinental Hotel at Dubai Festival City, Pocari Sweat, Emirates Today, Dubai Eye, Dubai Sports Channel and Aviation Club. “We have been able to raise the standards for the tennis event again this year with the signing of two important strategic partnerships: Number one, we have agreed to become an official tournament on the Outback Champions Series”, said Farbod Dowlatshahi, President of Delwood. “And secondly, Dubai Sports City will host the event after completion of their tennis facilities in 2009”.
The five-day program starts on 20 November with the official press conference with all players attending and is followed by the popular Kids Day, PRO AM and the charity gala dinner on 21 November. From 22-24 November it is all about tennis: spectators will be invited to watch two singles matches and one doubles exhibitions in a Knock-Out format of six players, the losing players still competing in the doubles exhibitions. Gate opens Thursday at 5 pm and Friday and Saturday at 6 pm.
For the first time the action will take place at the Dubai Tennis Stadium at The Aviation Club. Ticket sales will start on September 15th.
