Premiere Educational Provider for Seniors Real Estate and Housing Professionals Recognize 37 New Certified Senior Housing Professionals

Real Estate Agents Embrace New Models and Perspectives Offered in Response to Often Complex Issues Associated with Late-in-Life Transitions.

Austin, TX, September 30, 2013 --( Adults are living fuller, healthier and longer lives than ever before. Retirees have more options for where to live than many are even aware of and the percentage of seniors in every community across the country is on a sharp, upward trajectory.

“Having recently completed the prerequisite coursework and rigorous post-course requirements necessary to earn the Certified Senior Housing Professional (CSHP) designation, thirty-seven new graduates of the Seniors Real Estate Institute representing nine states now stand among a connected group of highly trained and committed professionals who have a clear sense of shifting demographics and are capable of responding to the distinct housing concerns and options that seniors face,” said Nikki Buckelew, CEO and Founder of the Seniors Real Estate Institute.

“It is exciting to see more real estate and senior housing professionals investing time, money, and energy into insuring that our elders are well cared for as they move from beloved family homes of sometimes fifty or more years. These real estate agents are not just sales people, they are advocates and legacy coaches who make a positive difference in the lives of those seniors and families they serve,” noted Mark Wilkinson, CSHP designee and broker at Keller Williams Realty in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

Noting that the aging population will likely have an a greater impact on the real estate market than any other factor for the remainder of this decade, Buckelew observed that, “first-time home buyers are frequently covered in the media and sought after by real estate agents, but it’s extremely rare that last-time home sellers are singled out as a segment with specialized needs. Professionals such as those graduating from our certification courses clearly understand that it’s time to shift outdated industry dynamics and embrace a new market approach,” Buckelew observed.

CSHP agents are on the leading edge of industry trends and they are connected to a community’s entire network of professionals, ensuring that seniors are aware of the full range of their options and that the transition occurs smoothly.

Citing a 2010 U.S. Census Bureau Report, Buckelew noted that between 2000 and 2010, there was a 15.1 percent increase in the 65-and-over segment of the population. At the same time, there was a 31.5 percent increase in the 45 to 64 year old segment – Baby Boomers who represent the largest demographic block in the history of the United States are entering retirement age at a rate of 10,000 a day. At the other end of the senior adult spectrum, U.S. Census Bureau data indicate that the 90-and-older segment of the population nearly tripled over the past three decades and is expected to quadruple over the next 40 years.

Statistics such as these, point to millions and millions of seniors who will be selling their homes: an estimated 11.3 million throughout the current decade, and that number is expected to reach 15 million between 2020 and 2030.

As such, professionals who seek out the expertise and demonstrate the commitment to serve this segment of the population with compassion and connectedness, are serving more than senior clients and their families,” Buckelew said. They represent a significant asset to their entire community.

Uniquely positioned to spearhead a real estate coaching and training company that is sharply focused on the seniors market, Buckelew is 20-year veteran of the real estate industry with degrees in Gerontology and Counseling Psychology. Prior to launching her career as a trainer and coach – and receiving considerable industry renown in this arena – she headed a mega real estate agent team that specialized in serving older adults.
