Providence Orlando Golf Community Hits the Ground Running for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
The Providence golf course community in Davenport, Florida, just southwest of Orlando, is gearing up for a busy month of breast cancer awareness and research fundraisers and events. Begun in 2012, this group of community minded residents has already been recognized for its fundraising activities. October of 2013 will focus on this important cause with a golf tournament, party, walk, and more activities for members of Providence and the public.
Self-named the “Booby Brigade,” the pink team of Providence was designated at the Silver Strider level after 2012’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in Orlando. This year they plan to reach that goal and more with a month full of events and activities, including the First Annual Pink Classic Golf Tournament that was held on October 6th. That exciting outing will be followed up by the Pink Party on October 18th, a fundraiser to which the public is invited, featuring dinner, music, auctions, and memorials all with the purpose of raising awareness and money for this worthy endeavor.
Other plans include a Pinkpalooza Yard Sale and the involvement of the Booby Brigade at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K Walk in Orlando on October 19th. According to the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month web site, its intention is to be “…a collaboration of national public service organizations, professional medical associations, and government agencies working together to promote breast cancer awareness, share information on the disease, and provide greater access to services.”
ABD Development’s President, Yuval Botansky, invited the Providence pink team to share the ABD/Providence promotional tent at the Orlando Sentinel’s Pink Bash on October 17th in Baldwin Park. The General Manager of the Providence Golf and Country Club, Tim Greco, graciously donated the club as the location for the Pink Classic Golf Tournament, as well as use of the parking lot for the yard sale to raise even more funds.
New construction by renowned builders Lennar, Richmond American Homes, Contempo, and developer ABD Development is going strong in the Providence gated golf community, with a variety of luxury homes slated to be on the market and move-in ready in the upcoming months. Providence was developed in 2005 and currently features over 700 occupied homes.
The showpiece of Providence is the 18-hole Michael Dasher-designed golf course, along with clubhouse, a pro shop and a restaurant, as well as a fitness and aquatic center with two pools, and lighted tennis courts. The countryside location and elegant design of Providence has earned ABD Development the Grand Showcase and First Place Awards for Community Development in the 2012 and 2013 Orlando Parade of Homes competitions.
