Michigan Based Deaf & Hearing Impaired Services Has Announced Sponsorship of Monroe County Elder Justice Summit

For the first time this year, Deaf & Hearing Impaired Services has announced it's sponsorship of the Monroe County Elder Justice Summit in Dundee, MI. The summit will focus on providing information to senior citizens on issues that directly impact the safety and security of Monroe County older adults.

Farmington Hills, MI, October 09, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Deaf & Hearing Impaired Services, Inc. (DHIS), a 501(c)3 nonprofit agency providing a continuum of services for deaf and hard of hearing older adults and their families in southeast Michigan, has announced its sponsorship of the Monroe County Elder Justice Summit. The event, scheduled to take place on Thursday, Oct. 10 in Dundee, will focus on providing information to senior citizens on issues that directly impact the safety and security of Monroe County older adults.

The summit is presented by the Elder Justice Task Force and Social Services Committee and will feature a presentation by Glenn Clark from the Michigan Attorney General’s office on recognizing and avoiding scams.

A grassroots and consumer driven organization, DHIS serves deaf and hard of hearing older adults in southeast Michigan by providing access to services otherwise made impossible or difficult due to the communication barrier. According to the State, approximately 1.4 million of Michigan citizens are deaf or hard of hearing, placing eighth in ranking among states for deaf population.

The summit will take place at the Dundee Assembly of God, located at 13790 S. Custer Rd. in Dundee from 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. In addition to the presentation by Glenn Clark, Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Monroe County Joe Costello, Jr. will present a local wrap up to the event. Exhibits from local organizations will provide information on services and resources available for caregivers, older adults and adults with disabilities.
