ThyroidChange Becomes a Nonprofit Organization in the State of New Jersey

Born from the desperation of thyroid patient Michelle Bickford in May of 2012, the grass-roots initiative ThyroidChange has branched out to become so much more than the original petition to improve the treatment of and raise awareness for thyroid disease. With a presence on various social media, including Facebook and Twitter, biweekly blogs and its own US and international lists of patient-recommended doctors, the patient advocacy organization is doing its utmost to achieve its mission. And now

Hawthorne, NJ, October 11, 2013 --(PR.com)-- ThyroidChange’s achievements to date include more than 13,500 signatures of their petition and successfully uniting various thyroid patient advocacy groups and bloggers. But it has also made numerous notable individuals sit up and take notice. These supporters include media names such as Gena Lee Nolin, Kim Alexis and Nicole Eggert; medical experts such as Izabella Wentz, Jacob Teitelbaum and Richard Shames and many more. And now ThyroidChange has officially become an NPO.

President Michelle Bickford: "We accomplished so much in less than two years. I mean, it's only been 16 months. We are a force to be reckoned with!" Michelle is grateful to the advocates who preceded her. "We stand on the backs of giants. We couldn't have achieved so much success without those unwavering advocates who have worked so hard to empower thyroid patients. Educated patients provide a united front that gives us all strength. This is a great time for all of us and there are exciting things in the works."

When asked what the future holds, Michelle excitedly talks about applying for federal nonprofit – 501(c)(3) – status, continuing the mission to educate patients and raising funds for research and to effect changes to healthcare guidelines to promote patient access to good care.

ThyroidChange unites patient advocacy groups in an effort to gain better care for thyroid disease patients and to raise awareness of this widespread problem. ThyroidChange also aims to work with medical oversight agencies in order to create a unified standard of care for thyroid patients to increase patient access to effective, modern treatment.
