Raleigh, NC, September 19, 2007 --(PR.com
)-- Debbie Panell has always been a writer. But when troubles in her marriage dictated she turn her hobby of writing into a career to support herself and her children, an enterprise was launched that even she did not expect.
"I was hoping just to be able to make ends meet," she says, " I never expected to actually be able to work at home and make a real income."
Debbie has written everything from web content for SEO purposes, to full websites about herbal nutrition, tips on learning the French language (she does not speak French, coincidentally) and has recently been offered a weekly humorous parenting column with a growing online magazine. She also has a rapidly growing portion of her business as a professional resume writer.
"There's never a day I don't have work to do... but that's okay. It means my reputation is growing and people are learning of my skills as a writer and columnist."
With her client list steadily growing, Debbie is particular about projects these days.
"There was a time when I would write for anybody about anything. While I've had to become more selective about the freelance and content projects I take on, it's a blessing because it means business is good."
That is not to say if you are looking to hire a freelance writer that Debbie is not available. The best way to find out if she will be able to work with you on a project is simply to ask.
"I receive requests nearly every day asking if I am available for new projects. Sometimes I am not, or there is a delay of when I can complete a project, but the growth of my business is dependent on obtaining new clients, because existing ones come and go. Even if I am not able to work on the project you initially contacted me about, there's always the possibility of future projects."
Debbie's main writing interests revolve around parenting, children and families, but she is skilled at writing on just about any topic.
"It would be nice if I could only focus on pregnancy and parenting, but that niche is fairly saturated with a lot of really talented writers. I have found that having a broad area of expertise and being able and willing to write on most topics is the most effective marketing strategy at this point."
