Enterprising Women Magazine Wins Gold Stevie Award

Publisher and CEO of Women’s Entrepreneurship Publication Honored by World’s Premier Business Awards in Women Helping Women Category

Raleigh, NC, November 17, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Enterprising Women magazine, the nation’s only woman-owned magazine published exclusively for women business owners, has announced that publisher and CEO Monica Smiley has won the 2013 Gold Stevie Award in the category of Women Helping Women – Business. The Women Helping Women honor recognizes the achievements of women who provide support and assistance to women in their communities.

The Stevie Awards for Women in Business honor women executives, entrepreneurs, and the companies they run – worldwide. The awards are one of four Stevie Awards programs, which have been hailed as the world’s premier business awards. More than 1,200 entries were submitted this year for consideration in 85 categories, including Best Executive, Best Entrepreneur, Lifetime Achievement, and Communications Campaign of the Year.

Enterprising Women's mission fosters the growth of a community of women helping women and this award is positive recognition of that important work. With its prestigious advisory board and its community of women entrepreneurs around the world who read the magazine, attend the Enterprising Women of the Year Awards event and stay engaged, Enterprising Women's mission embodies the concept of women helping women – sharing best practices and helping each other take their businesses to the next level.

As publisher and CEO of Enterprising Women, Smiley has led the magazine for 14 years, growing the magazine’s audience to more than one million readers in 185 countries. Enterprising Women facilitates the sharing of best practices among women business owners, and provides mentors and roles models for the next generation of women entrepreneurs.

Smiley was also recognized with the Gold Stevie Award for Women Helping Women due to her extensive experience in providing mentorship to women seeking to bring peace to their countries through entrepreneurship. Monica has worked closely with the Institute for Economic Empowerment of Women (IEEW) since its 2006 inception, and last year joined its board of directors. She has served as mentor and host with its Peace Through Business program (PTB), which graduated its first participants in 2008. Peace Through Business established women’s business centers in Rwanda and Afghanistan, assisting participants with business plans, providing financial literacy education and connecting women to potential markets to grow their businesses.

Drawing from her extensive experience in publishing, she was able to help a woman from Rwanda who launched the country’s first online magazine. Smiley helped the woman analyze her market, develop a marketing approach to pursue advertising revenue, and more fully develop her editorial content. Monica has also become a mentor to young women from China and Afghanistan.
