Apex Rehabilitation and Healthcare Celebrates as Thanksgiving and Hanukkah Share the Stage in 2013

South Huntington Based Nursing Home Apex Rehabilitation and Healthcare Celebrates Thanksgiving and Hanukkah with Festive Programs Designed to Bring Families Together.

South Huntington, NY, November 21, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The fall season is home to a cluster of cherished holidays, with families across the country coming together for food, family and building memories. This year, two of these beloved holidays meet again for the first time in 125 years, opening the door for a once in a lifetime holiday experience that will be remembered for years to come.

Thanksgiving, celebrated traditionally in the United States on the fourth Thursday in November, was declared a national holiday by President Lincoln in 1863. With it's own culture of food and togetherness, families and communities have come together for this honored tradition since the pilgrims sat with the Native Americans.

This year, Thanksgiving will share the stage with the Jewish celebration of Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights. A much older holiday than Thanksgiving, Hanukkah lasts for eight days and celebrates the successful rebellion of the Maccabees against Antiochus IV Epiphanes, after which the candles of the temple burned for eight days on a one day supply. Like Thanksgiving, Hanukkah has its own cultural and traditional foods.

“We are very excited about the joint celebration of Thanksgiving and the first day of Hanukkah. This is surely a once in a lifetime event and we hope that families and friends all over take advantage of the festivities. It is also the perfect chance to spend the holiday with our residents, who are also very much looking forward to the celebrations and programs we have planned that day for them and their families,” said Ari Silberstein, Administrator at Apex Rehabilitation and Healthcare.

To commemorate this historic event, Apex Rehabilitation and Healthcare is hosting programs and events that reflect the festive nature of the day. Traditional games will be played, accompanied by traditional stories and followed by a meal made up of innovative combinations of signature dishes from both holidays. Family, friends, and loved ones are encouraged to join in on the festivities and to contribute to the spirit of community enhanced by the arrival of the holidays.
