North East Company Raises Over £600 for Children in Need with Help of Celebs

Sunderland-based WeBuyDvds.co.uk has raised over £600 for Children In Need, with the help of BBC presenter Jeff Brown, Eurovision star Nicki French and Mrs Brown's Boys star Gary Hollywood.

Sunderland, United Kingdom, November 30, 2013 --(PR.com)-- WeBuyDvds.co.uk, one of the region’s fastest growing businesses has raised an astonishing £601.45 for Children In Need.

The fundraiser helped employees across the region donate unwanted DVDs, CDs and Games at work, which were bought at a top market rate by WeBuyDvds.co.uk, with every penny being donated directly to Children In Need.

Celebrities from across the UK came out in support of this initiative. Jeff Brown, Sports Correspondent and Presenter on BBC Look North, was a key supporter of the fundraiser, and even donated a few of his old CDs for the cause.

Mrs Brown’s Boys actor Gary Hollywood, who plays "Dino" in the hit comedy, also got involved, stating that he wanted to improve "kids futures."

The appeal also saw a Eurovision Song Contestant join in, with GB star of 2000 Nicki French pledging strong support. Nicki reached no.2 in the Billboard Hot 100 in the US, and was an ambassador in getting people to donate their unwanted items instead of cash.

This appeal meant that the people of the region could give generously to Children In Need without spending any money in this tough financial climate.

The event escalated to a size much bigger than anticipated, with national storage giant Safestore providing drop-off points for the general public to get involved.

Speaking of the fundraiser, BBC Look North star Jeff Brown said: “It’s a terrific idea. Everyone I know has DVDs, CDs and Game stuck in a cupboard, which they never watch, me included. What a great way to have a clear out and raise money for a fantastic cause at the same time.”

Nicki French, who rose to fame with her version of "Total eclipse of the heart," said: “Best wishes to webuydvds.co.uk for their wonderful fundraising efforts for this year’s Children In Need appeal! As a recording artist with previous chart success, it will be one occasion where I won’t mind seeing my own CDs donated – as I know the money raised will be going to an extremely good cause.”

WeBuyDvds.co.uk is fast growing business and was founded in 2008, operating out of Colima Ave, Sunderland. Safestore has over 100 stores nationwide and has designated the Sunderland Store, Newcastle Wallsend Store and Newcastle Central Store to be drop off points for unwanted DVDs, CDs and games.

This year Children in need raised a record £31 million during the live telethon alone, smashing the previous record and giving the 2014 campaign a difficult sum to surpass.

All proceeds from this campaign are going to help one of Children in needs 2700 children’s projects across the UK. Children in need have helped raise over £600 million since its introduction in 1980 and has been presented by Sir Terry Wogan via the BBC each year since.
