Middleton, WI, December 20, 2013 --(PR.com
)-- The holidays mean lots of extra calories and less time to work out. “Staying fit and maintaining a healthy way of life is difficult at best, but there are ways the entire family can keep up with fitness goals while enjoying the time with friends and relatives,” says Fred Bachman, President of Bachmann Pools and Spas. Here are three ways to fit in a workout during the holidays.
Get Up Early - It may seem like a no-brainer, but where there isn’t time to exercise during the hectic holidays, getting up even a half hour earlier can provide plenty of workout time. Even though it makes perfect sense, it can be hard to convince the body that giving up that extra sleep time is a good idea. However, just a few minutes of exercise can leave the body feeling energized and prepared for a long day of fighting those shopping lines, dealing with relatives and partying.
If getting up a half hour early just isn’t appealing, find a way to get exercise in with less traditional forms of working out. Park at the end of a shopping center lot and walk in. Jog up and down the stairs when preparing the house for visitors. Even simple isometric exercises can also add to daily fitness levels when just sitting around the living room and enjoying time with family.
Prepare a Schedule Ahead of Time - One of the biggest reasons for fitness failure during the holidays is a lack of planning. Because everyone is running around doing a lot of extra things to prepare for big dinners, shopping for gifts and just going from home to home, it’s easy to just forget to workout. That’s not such a big thing if it happens once or twice, but the massive holiday season from Thanksgiving to New Year’s makes for a lot of missed exercise sessions that can throw a fitness schedule into serious decay.
Instead of hoping for the best, develop a plan to make sure that everyone in the family has the time at least three times a week to get in a good workout, and stick to the plan no matter what. Holidays are important, but leaving fitness out of the equation can ruin an entire year of hard work.
Skip the Work - Just Add Water - Add a hot tub to the family’s wish list for the holidays and make having fun at home a total exercise in health. Hot tubs are an excellent source of relaxation and will give everyone in the home a way to de-stress after a long day of partying.
Sitting in the warm, soothing water has added benefits many people don’t even realize. A study by Joel M. Stager, PhD, showed that soaking in hot tubs has many therapeutic effects. It helps improve cardio health, improves respiration, increases muscle mass and increases oxygen circulation.
