Local Certified Chair Yoga Teacher, Tamera Nielsen, Pledges 10% of All Proceeds from Chair Yoga Classes in 2014 to KIDS Place

In an effort to raise awareness and funds for KIDS Place, Tamera Nielsen, year round resident of Franklin and the only Certified Chair Yoga Teacher in Western North Carolina pledges 10% of all 2014 chair yoga class proceeds to KIDS Place.

Franklin, NC, January 24, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Tamera Nielsen, local Certified Chair Yoga Teacher at Feel Well Yoga committed to Alisa Ashe, Executive Director of KIDS Place that 10% of all chair yoga classes proceeds for the entirety of 2014 will be donated to KIDS Place’s. KIDS (Kids Interdisciplinary Services, Inc.) Place is a private, nonprofit, nationally accredited children's advocacy center that provides services for abused children and their caregivers. Their mission is to provide hope and healing for abused children and their families through coordinated services in a child-friendly place.

“As a survivor of childhood abuse, KIDS Place quickly earned a place in my heart, and the more I learned, the more I wanted to help,” says Nielsen. “To fully grasp the extent to which KIDS Place aids abused children, I encourage interested parties to set an appointment for a tour of their facility. KIDS Place’s home-like setting promotes a sense of safety for children at a most crucial time. And most impressive to me is their success in helping abused children of Macon County, particularly through their evidence-based trauma-focused therapy, which has shown significant improvement and advancement in the recovery of abused children.”

In these classes, Nielsen complements the physical benefits of yoga by teaching participants how to better manage - and prepare for - trauma, be it something as familiar as a cold or a more severe, life-altering challenge.

“When I first began my recovery from childhood abuse many years ago, I learned about how the body can store emotional and physical trauma well after the occurrence. This led me to learn how to manage the after-effects of trauma, and prepare the mind and body to better cope with potential adversities like illness or disability, for example. Hard-won lessons like these are taught to my class participants,” says Nielsen.

Feel Well Yoga’s Certified Chair Yoga Classes are designed for anyone who is more comfortable exercising off the floor rather than on it, and is especially helpful to those living with chronic pain/disease, arthritis, joint challenges, as well as survivors of abuse and individuals using Assisted Walking Devices (wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, prosthetics).

“We are thrilled Tamera has chosen to support KIDS Place in this unique way. Tamera teaches students how to manage trauma, be it emotional or physical. We see about 100 abused children each year at KIDS Place, and are intimately aware of the impact trauma can have on one’s mind and body, especially if it goes unhealed. It seems a perfect fit for Tamera and Feel Well Yoga to help our children by way of raising funds and awareness about our mission and services, and we appreciate it,” said Alisa W. Ashe, Executive Director of KIDS Place.

In an uplifting, nurturing, empathetic environment, Nielsen leads participants through exercises, poses, breathing techniques, and mental preparedness training that can be used anywhere, anytime to promote overall wellness.
