IMR International Limited Announces the Launch of EPG Patient Direct, the New Public Health Website for Europe

Crowborough, United Kingdom, September 29, 2007 --( IMR International Limited, developers of e-communication and clinical information solutions, today announced the launch of its public health portal; The new resource, sanctioned by the European Medical Association, is dedicated to providing patients and the general public in Europe with a credible source of independent health-related information. EPG Patient Direct is the latest addition to the successful EPG web offering, including the doctor-focused EPG Online resource, which provides access to diagnosis and patient management guidance for healthcare professionals.

EPG Patient Direct provides free, non-subscription based access to online healthcare information and advice in five main European languages, including English, French, German, Spanish and Italian, with content tailored specifically to the European audience and regulations governing patient-focused medical information.

A major component of the website is its library of interactive ‘Quick Guides’ which deal with a broad range of medical conditions. Designed specifically for use by the general public, the ‘Quick Guides’ focus on causes, symptoms, lifestyle advice and treatment options for both common health conditions such as flu, snoring, diabetes, arthritis, psoriasis and eczema and more complex conditions such as GERD, Multiple Sclerosis, meningitis, non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and Restless Leg Syndrome.

The service is funded largely through educational grants and sponsorship. Partners include global leaders in health care such as Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Roche, NovoNordisk, Merck-Serono and Astellas; all dedicated to improving awareness and health outcomes.

“We recognise that today’s patients are more informed than ever before, but they still face an overwhelming challenge in sourcing health-related information that is comprehensive, trustworthy and easy to understand” said Chris Cooper, Managing Director of IMR International Ltd. "The internet offers fantastic potential for individuals to research their own, or a family member's condition and to seek greater understanding of treatment options, available support and advice etc, but at the moment, there are some huge drawbacks; finding good information takes time and even when you have found it, it can be hard to verify the veracity of the information. By working with partners in healthcare, we are connecting patients and their carers with information and advice that is independent, authoritative and objective.”

In addition to its library of ‘Quick Guides’, EPG Patient Direct will provide access to medical news, support groups, personal health tests and other valuable sources of healthcare information. “Our aim is to provide a service that the general public can turn to as a trusted source for all of their health related research.” said Michelle Kelly, Partnership Director for EPG Patient Direct. “We hope to see EPG Patient Direct quickly become a house-hold name across Europe as a ‘one stop’ medical website for patients.”

By breaking down medical language barriers and raising patient/public awareness, EPG Patient Direct is intended to help the user decide if and when it is advisable to consult a health care professional about their condition, what they can expect from that consultation and the most likely treatment options and outcome. Information on the site is intended to support and in no way replace or undermine professional medical advice and care. Users are advised to always consult a doctor regarding medical symptoms before acting upon any information seen online.
