SIX Safety Systems Announces Acquisition of WorkSMART Ergonomics Ltd.

Calgary, Canada, February 07, 2014 --(PR.com)-- SIX Safety Systems, a global leader in worker fit for duty risk solutions, announced today the acquisition of WorkSMART Ergonomics, a top ergonomic and human factors consulting firm in Canada.

With the close of this acquisition, SIX Safety Systems will strengthen its already comprehensive worker fit for duty solutions and monitoring technologies. WorkSMART will offer further workplace fatigue risk expertise, supporting existing risk mitigation strategies, the LUCI™ fatigue monitoring technology, and SIX Safety’s global thought leadership position in the rapidly expanding worker fit for duty risk market.

“WorkSMART’s subject matter expertise in workplace fatigue and human factors is incredibly complimentary to what we have already built at SIX Safety. It will further support our ability to deliver premium solutions to the mining and energy verticals,” said Rich Robillard, CEO of SIX Safety Systems. “WorkSMART’s founder and President, Mike Harnett, has played a key role in the development of national standards in Canada to better understand and manage physical, cognitive, and organizational hazards and risks in the workplace.”

“I am really excited to be bringing WorkSMART into the SIX Safety family and joining the executive team,” said Mike Harnett, WorkSMART’s founder and President. “It is a natural fit. The collective team’s experience and expertise, capital resources and leading technologies, such as LUCI™, will drive an unparalleled worker fit for duty solution. I look forward to contributing to the future of SIX Safety Systems.”

Mike Harnett will assume the position of Vice President Human Factors.
The integration of WorkSMART’s expertise will significantly enhance and support the LUCI™ Operator Fit for Duty Technology, slated to launch this summer. “No cameras, no hats, no glasses, LUCI™ will simply be the most advanced fatigue monitoring technology in the world,” said Robillard. “When implemented within a custom risk mitigation strategy developed and implemented by the leading fatigue and human factor experts who come from industry, like Mike Harnett, corporations will see immediate reductions in risk and increases in productivity.”

SIX Safety will also create a WorkSMART Academy to carry on the accreditation of WorkSMART’s current Ergonomics Systems Specialist designation (ESS). WorkSMART Academy will develop additional specialized training and accredited designations in workplace ergonomics and fatigue under the leadership of Mike Harnett. Furthermore, a new division within SIX Safety will be created dedicated to conventional ergonomics and human factor services, including employer and employee training.

The acquisition will be completed May 1st, 2014. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
