Four Newport County Luxury Real Estate Sales Begin 2014

Newport, RI, February 23, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty today announced the sales of four million dollar plus Newport County properties since New Year’s Day. “The Wyndham Estate,” at 36 Beacon Hill Road, closed on January 3rd for $6,800,000; “Windward,” at 236 Coggeshall Avenue, sold for $2,250,000; 438 Purgatory Lane in Middletown, sold for $2,100,000, and “Twin Beeches,” on Catherine Street brought a price of $1,735,000. Gustave White Sotheby’s represented the sellers for three of the luxury transactions, and the buyer for the Middletown property.

Offering unparalleled views of the coastline and ocean from the highest point of Newport, “The Wyndham Estate,” set on over 11 prime acres, was designed by William Ralph Emerson and built in 1890. The 12,000-sf Baronial-style residence offered 7 bedrooms, 9 fireplaces, a grand ballroom, a rooftop deck with Jacuzzi, and oak and marble floors. A recent renovation provided modern amenities to blend with its Old World Charm. Paul Leys, co-owner of Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty, represented the seller, and Prudential Gammons Realty, represented the buyer.

“Windward,” overlooking Bailey’s Beach and set on over an acre near the end of Cliff Walk at Ocean Drive, boasted spectacular ocean views with sunset views. Virginia Baldwin, sales associate with Gustave White represented the seller. Lila Delman Real Estate represented the buyer.

“Twin Beeches,” designed by Thomas Alexander Tefft and built in 1853, is an exemplar of the Italianate-style houses in the Kay/Catherine area. Beautifully renovated with a light-filled sunroom and gourmet kitchen and surrounded by English-style gardens. Chris West, co-owner of Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty, represented the seller, and Lila Delman Real Estate represented the buyer.

With views of Paradise Valley, Second Beach, and beyond, 438 Purgatory Lane in Middletown, was built in 1871, and abuts the St. George’s School campus. Don Desrosiers, sales associate with Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty, represented the buyer of this Hogan & Associates listing.

“As I mentioned when the sale of “Wyndham” was first announced,” stated Leys, “these sales are signs of good things to come for the high-end/luxury real estate market—not only for Aquidneck Island, but for all of Rhode Island and Southern New England. Buyers and investors are beginning to realize that Newport is a very desirable destination for them in comparison to other nearby options such as Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, or the Hamptons. The price is right, it’s easy to get to, and the quality of living is second to none.”
