Rigorous Benchmark Full-Scale Tests Validate eMeter Meter Data Management System Capability; EnergyIP Software Manages Interval Data for Millions of Advanced Meters

Redwood City, CA, September 30, 2007 --(PR.com)-- eMeter Corporation, a provider of advanced metering information system software to electric, gas, and water utilities, announced today that its EnergyIP software exceeded stringent third-party performance testing.

IBM Global Business Services, while conducting a competitive evaluation on behalf of a major U.S. utility, designed a rigorous set of ten benchmarking tests simulating a fully-deployed AMI network with over five million meters delivering a combination of hourly and 15-minute interval data: data from each meter was to be received and validated daily. The tests were specifically designed to benchmark full-scale critical business processes including: daily automated validation and estimation (VEE) for all meters, daily computation of time-of-use energy summaries, generating daily billing data for over 500,000 customers, aggregating all 5 million customer loads into daily load summaries, and performing data-intensive event-based simulations such as a utility-wide demand-response event.

IBM installed eMeter’s current production release of EnergyIP 5.0 on an IBM System p5 server running AIX 5.3 in a virtualized (LPAR) configuration at IBM’s test center in Poughkeepsie, NY. The test system was pre-loaded with 14 months of historical data (totaling over 8 terabytes) to simulate a true production environment.

The most critical test involved processing data from 4.5 million meters with hourly interval data and 800,000 meters with 15-minute interval data. The eMeter system was proven to retrieve, validate, complete estimations, prepare all TOU billing determinants, and store data to the meter data warehouse – with its existing 14-month database – completing all daily operations including billing in less than 215 minutes, significantly faster than any other system tested. Real-time performance was further highlighted with a large-scale demand response test where EnergyIP requested and received, processed and stored 500,000 real-time reads in less than 9 minutes.

“Our system performed as expected,” said Cree Edwards, Chairman and CEO of eMeter. “We designed this from the ground up to deal with real-time mass market advanced meter data management. Utilities have put our product through rigorous testing and the result is unparalleled. This is the sole focus of our business and we expect to be the leader in both performance and functionality in this space. ”

Meter developed EnergyIP specifically to support the installation, operation, and management of AMI systems and the data they generate. eMeter’s software is built upon an open architecture, multi-vendor and communications technology neutral platform. Its Service Oriented Architecture ensures AMI project success by providing support for a wide range of AMI-based Intelligent Grid functions, ranging from interval metering to home area networks (HANs).

About eMeter

Since 1999, eMeter Corporation of Redwood City, California, has provided software that enables electric, gas, and water utilities to realize the full benefits of their Advanced Metering initiatives. eMeter’s solutions allow for demand response and real-time monitoring of resource usage, resulting in greater energy efficiency and more reliable service, while minimizing the cost and risk of AMI deployment, data management, and business operations.

EnergyIP, eMeter’s software platform, is an Advanced Metering Information System with three major elements: 1) a Meter Data Management System (MDMS), 2) an integration platform for linking a variety of meter data collection systems to a variety of utility information systems, and 3) Business Process Management applications specializing in advanced metering implementation, operations, and maintenance.

eMeter's experienced professional services team is available to plan, install, and configure the EnergyIP software, as well as provide strategic consulting services related to meter data management, advanced metering, and demand response.
