SGS Announces EU to Amend Maximum Residue Levels for Pesticides in Food and Feed

In January 2014, the European Union has announced 4 Commission Regulations amending Annexes II, III and V to Directive 2005/396/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards maximum residue levels for pesticides in or on food and feed of plant and animal origin.

The changes and amendments in the four Commission Regulations (EU) No 36/2014 (1), (EU) No 51/2014 (2), (EU) No 61/2014 (3) and (EU) No 79/2014 (4) are related to the Maximum Residues Levels (MRLs) for pesticides aminopyralid, chlorantraniliprole, cyflufenamid, mepiquat, metalaxyl-M, propamocarb, pyriofenone, quinoxyfen, dimethomorph, indoxacarb, pyraclostobin, cyromazine, fenpropidin, formetanate, oxamyl, tebuconazole, bifenazate, chlorpropham, esfenvalerate, fludioxonil and thiobencarb in or on food and feed of plant and animal origin imported into the EU. Amendments of the Commission Regulation

- The changes in Commission Regulation (EU) No. 51/2014 of 20 January 2014 are related with the MRLs for dimethomorph, indoxacarb and pyraclostrobin for several commodities in Commission Regulation (EU) No 668/2013 on 12 July 2013, therefore these Regulations, shall apply from 2 February 2014.

- The changes in Commission Regulation (EU) No. 36/2014 of 16 January 2014 shall apply from 9 February 2014.

- The changes of MRLs for cyromazine and fenpropidin in all products, formetanate for all products except table and wine grapes, tomatoes, aubergines, courgettes, melons, pumpkins and watermelons, oxamyl for all products except peppers including tebuconazole in wine and all order products except apples, pears, cherries, peaches, table and wine grapes and Chinese cabbage in Commission Regulation (EU) No 61/2014 of 24 January 2014 shall apply from 14 August 2014.

- The changes of MRLs for formetanate in table and wine grapes, tomatoes, aubergines, melons, pumpkins and watermelons in Commission Regulation (EU) No 61/2014 of 24 January 2014 shall apply from 14 February 2014.

- The changes and amendments in Commission Regulation (EU) No. 79/2014 of 29 January 2014 shall apply from 19 August 2014.
