The Gateway Family YMCA Celebrates National Walking Day

YMCA Encourages Employee Wellness

Elizabeth, NJ, April 05, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The Gateway Family YMCA took a lunchtime walk this rainy Wednesday in celebration of National Walking Day. National Walking Day, observed on the first Wednesday in April, is sponsored by the American Heart Association, encouraging community health. The Gateway Family YMCA organized walks throughout the county, at various locations led by YMCA staff teams.

“Rain or shine, it’s very beneficial to get up from your desk and take a walk during the day,” stated Krystal R. Canady, CEO – The Gateway Family YMCA, “Employee wellness is important and it’s encouraging to see the large groups gather and walk.”

The Gateway Family YMCA Association Office staff team joined the Trinitas Hospital staff and members of Shaping Elizabeth on a walk at the Elizabeth Midtown Walking Trail off North Broad Street. Shaping Elizabeth is a collaboration of organizations in Elizabeth working together to improve the health of the community. Founding partners include: Trinitas Regional Medical Center, Groundwork Elizabeth, City of Elizabeth Health & Human Services and Elizabeth Development Company.

The Gateway Family YMCA – Five Points Branch and Wellness Center Branch organized a morning walk at Bicentennial Park in Union, NJ, including staff, YMCA members and children from the Early Childhood Development Center. Staff at the Elizabeth Branch were joined by YMCA members on a separate walk in Elizabeth and the Rahway Branch staff gathered for a walk locally in Rahway. Over 100 members of the community walked with encouragement from the Y and joined in the day of awareness.
