Medical Tourism Association® Names Representative in Turkey, Expands Operations in Southeastern Europe and Western Asia

The Medical Tourism Association® has restructured and expanded the international trade organization's transcontinental operations in Southeastern Europe and Western Asia.

Palm Beach Gardens, FL, April 26, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The Medical Tourism Association® has restructured and expanded transcontinental operations in Southeastern Europe and Western Asia following the appointment of Mert Akkök, an experienced international healthcare consultant, as the trade organization’s official representative in the Republic of Turkey.

Akkök, a resident of Istanbul, will be responsible for promoting and developing regional investments in medical tourism, and will work with healthcare buyers including employers and insurance companies to create educational programs while identifying and coordinating familiarization trips to Centers of Excellence for Medical Tourism Association® members and affiliates.

“State-led efforts and private investments have transformed existing facilities and services and enabled Turkey to extend its healthcare markets beyond national boundaries,” said Renée-Marie Stephano, President of the Medical Tourism Association®. “Having a highly skilled and qualified representative to facilitate this growth is a logical step that runs parallel to Turkey’s progression in the international medical tourism arena.”

The founder of b2b Medical Encounters, Akkök has spent close to two decades organizing, coordinating and managing interactive workshops and events for healthcare buyers and suppliers. As a regional representative, Akkok will be specifically charged with implementing Certified Medical Tourism Professional programs, a designation obtained through comprehensive education and training that demonstrates to employers, healthcare providers, insurers and industry peers advanced knowledge and understanding of best practices in international patient services.

The Medical Tourism Association® is the first membership-based international nonprofit trade association for the medical tourism and healthcare industry made up of top international hospitals, healthcare providers, medical travel facilitators, insurance companies, and other affiliates committed to promoting the highest level of quality healthcare to patients in a global environment. www.MedicalTourismAssociation.com
