2nd Annual Singapore Math® & Lesson Study Summer Institute in Briarcliff, NY on August 25-26, 2014

The focus of the Singapore Math® and Lesson Study Summer Institute is to help K-8 teachers to gain the mathematical content knowledge in order to teach Singapore Math effectively.

Briarcliff Manor, NY, May 01, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The curriculum is built on a solid foundation, which emphasizes focus, rigor and a logical sequence of the concept introduction from one grade to the next. The workshops are designed to help teachers to extend the knowledge of the Singapore Math pedagogy, content and concept connections across grades.

New workshops for this year will include measurement and geometry in K-5. Also, a new workshop will be introduced for middle school teachers. It will cover algebra, model drawing, proportional reasoning and measurement.

The Singapore Math® and Lesson Study Summer Institute also connects new implementers of Primary Mathematics with the existing network of schools that already use the program in the tri-state area. Teachers will be able to easily incorporate many of the strategies taught at the Institute into their Math in Focus and other elementary and middle school math programs.

Teachers new to Singapore Math can attend their highly popular workshops on Bar Modeling, Number Sense and Fractions. These workshops will help teachers to break down even the most complicated problems and, then, solve them step-by-step with model drawing. Teachers will also benefit from learning and practicing engaging strategies for developing number sense and building fact fluency with fun games and activities.

The Summer Institute is also designed to address topics regarding initial and subsequent years of the Singapore Math implementation. However, it is not designed to replace any ongoing onsite Professional Development. The Institute should be looked at as an extension or an addition to such training.

Lesson Study workshops will focus on the teaching strategies that improve classroom practices, teaching for understanding and mastery, and effective use of white boards. Lesson Study workshops are open only to groups of interested teachers.

Attendees will also have a chance to preview the newly released Singapore Math Primary Mathematics Common Core edition textbooks, workbook and teachers’ guides. The new Singapore Math materials maintain the integrity, rigor and focus of the original materials. The new edition offers complete coverage of the Common Core Standards for content and for mathematical practices. The new edition is particularly helpful for teaching mathematics to English Language Learners (ELLs).

Also, a new addition to the already highly successful curriculum will be a technology resource, which is called Singapore Math Primary Digital online program. It is designed to complement the Primary Mathematics Common Core edition program. It combines multimedia technology with instructional strategies to offer an engaging teaching and learning experience. Primary digital technology components include pre- and post-tests, grade tests, teaching tutorials, guided learning practices, benchmark practices, independent practices, and an intervention pack.

Both, Singapore Math Common Core edition and Primary Digital programs will be displayed and, then shown to any interested participant.

Suggested audience: K-5 teachers, special education teachers, administrators and math specialists.

The seminar is organized by East West Math LLC. East West Math LLC specializes in the Singapore Math® and Lesson Study professional development services.
