Hertz Schram PC Announces Promotions, Hiring of New Attorneys

Bloomfield Hills, MI, October 12, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Bloomfield Hills-based Hertz Schram PC (www.hertzschram.com) announced the promotion of Lisa M. Kavalhuna and Steven P. Jenkins as members.

The firm also hired several new attorneys, including Gerald P. Cavellier, Patricia A. Stamler, Jay G. Yasso, Daniel W. Rucker and Diana Gertsmark Brown. Judge Justin C. Ravitz joined the firm as Of Counsel. Hertz Schram PC provides a wide range of legal services for individuals, institutions and industries across the country.

Lisa M. Kavalhuna is a member of the firm’s Corporate Law and Medical-Dental Professional Practice Groups. The Western Michigan University and University of Toledo College of Law alum works closely with business clients, focusing on initial organization, structuring, private financing, acquisitions and dispositions of business interests, business succession matters and business operation matters. She has extensive experience in the formation of limited liability companies and joint venture transactions.

As a member of Hertz Schram’s Medical-Dental Professional Practice Group, Kavalhuna prepares, reviews and negotiates agreements on behalf of physicians and dentists providing services in numerous medical specialties. She is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, Women Business Owners of Southeast Michigan, and the American, Michigan, Ohio, Oakland County Bar Associations. Kavalhuna is licensed to practice law in Ohio and Michigan.

Steven P. Jenkins’ practice includes litigation in various areas of the law, including corporate and commercial, family law, property, criminal defense, personal injury and negligence. The University of Michigan alum, who graduated with distinction from Ohio Northern University Law School, previously worked as a Judicial Law Clerk for the Oakland County Circuit Court and as a Research Attorney for the Honorable Barry L. Howard. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

Gerald P. Cavellier, who recently joined the firm as a member, will lead Hertz Schram Family Law/Domestic Relations Practice Group. His practice spans all areas of family law and domestic relations, including divorce, custody, shared parenting, child support and spousal support. He has significant expertise in handling sophisticated property settlements as well as business and asset valuations. Additionally, Cavellier handles juvenile court matters, including abuse, neglect and delinquency and personal protection orders. The Oakland University and Detroit College of Law graduate is the immediate past chair for the Family Law Committee of the Oakland County Bar Association. He is also a member of the State Bar of Michigan, Macomb County Bar Association and Family Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan and is admitted to practice law in the United States Court Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and United States Federal Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

Patricia A. Stamler a former Sommers Schwartz PC shareholder specializes in employment matters, whistleblower claims, police and governmental misconduct, sexual abuse cases and special education. The Michigan State University and Wayne State University Law School alum will be integrated into Hertz Schram’s commercial litigation and securities practice groups. She is currently a member of the Fellows of the Michigan State Bar Association, Liberty Hill Inc. Board of Directors and Michigan Trial Lawyers Association.

Jay G. Yasso, a former Sommers Schwartz shareholder, specializes in professional negligence, product liability, general civil litigation, corporate/business transactions and Sports and Entertainment. A former Boston College basketball player, he also has vast experience representing record companies, recording artists, producers and songwriters. Yasso has a Master’s degree in International Relations from Wayne State University and his jurist doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy Law School. He is a member of the American Bar Association and American Trial Lawyers of America.

Daniel W. Rucker is a former appellate attorney advisor with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Western District of Michigan, where he addressed federal district court and appellate matters, including civil, criminal, immigration and habeas matters through written advocacy. The Michigan State University College of Law and Trevecca Nazarene alum will be engaged in the firm’s commercial litigation, negligence, employment and criminal defense practices.

Diana Gertsmark Brown arrives at Hertz Schram after spending the last 13 years working with several of the area’s prestigious divorce lawyers. She has experience in child custody matters, complex property division, claims for spousal support, prenuptial agreements and adoption. The University of Michigan and University of Detroit Mercy Law School graduate will assist with the firm’s Family Law Practice Group, particularly the areas concerning divorce and family law.

Former Detroit Recorder’s Court Judge Justin C. Ravitz comes to the firm as Of Counsel. Ravitz specializes in alternative dispute resolution as a facilitator, mediator and arbitrator on complex and problematic cases. His 13-year judicial career on the Recorder’s Court Bench (1973-86) uniquely qualifies him to serve as a skilled facilitator and mediator. During his judicial tenure, Ravitz earned praise from prosecutors, police and defense attorneys for his integrity, intelligence and fair, no-nonsense approach to the law.
