Builder’s taskforce uses expert skills in constructing healthcare facilities.
Houston, TX, May 22, 2014 --(PR.com)-- McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., a Texas builder for 35 years, has announced a new addition to its construction team in the Houston office– the Specialized Solutions Group. Led by McCarthy Project Manager Preston Hodges and Project Superintendent Michael Kacal, the Specialized Solutions Group concentrates on smaller, unique projects including renovation/expansion projects with a focus on projects types such as patient care, lab projects and research labs. As the largest American-based healthcare builder in the country, the Specialized Solutions Group is utilizing its in-depth industry expertise to serve the project needs of medical and higher education clients including the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical center in the world, as well as other surrounding premier institutions.
The Houston-based team has already been awarded two major projects in the area for its industry expertise and knowledge of healthcare building and construction – the renovation of the Rice University, MD Anderson Biological Laboratories building and the CHI St. Luke’s Health – Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) 12.
“We are proud to officially introduce the Specialized Solutions Group to the industry, and we are pleased to be working with two well-known Houston institutions right off the bat,” said McCarthy Houston President Jim Stevenson. “By creating this group, we are able to better serve the unique project needs of the Texas Medical Center and surrounding institutions. This team has extensive experience and established relationships in the healthcare industry and has the ability to precisely match the needs of a facility and provide the specialized solutions necessary to complete projects with exceptional quality.”
The restoration of the Rice University, MD Anderson Biological Lab will include the renovation of 30,000 square feet of existing lab space in the building. The Specialized Solutions Group will build back the interior space to accommodate new biological lab space and create additional administration and office areas. It also will include new mechanical infrastructure for the renovated site. The project, which will be phased over a two-year period, is in pre-design with work to begin as soon as funding is secured.
Additionally, the Specialized Solutions Group will take on the Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center’s CVOR 12 project, which will consist of the selective demolition and build back of the operating room to accommodate new Stryker and Siemens medical equipment. The project also will include mechanical, electrical and plumbing infrastructure upgrades, technological modifications for medical equipment centralization, relocation of surgical tables and minor architectural finishes to improve the facility. The project is set to begin in summer of 2014 and complete in winter of 2014.
As one of the nation’s most trusted builders, McCarthy’s extensive resume of healthcare, laboratory and higher education-related construction experience makes it ideally suited to take on projects of any size or complexity. McCarthy’s collaborative, problem-solving approach from preconstruction through project completion helps assure the quality a client expects.
