Senior Star at Las Colinas Village and Walgreens Live Well Series Focuses on Skin Protection
Albuquerque, NM, May 24, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Senior Star at Las Colinas Village is pleased to continue the Live Well with Walgreens speakers’ series, a new collaboration in the Albuquerque area that brings expert pharmacists into the community throughout the year who will present a variety of health topics for people of all ages. This collaboration aims to create healthier communities through educational programs that encourage living well.
As summer approaches, the free program on skin care will be held at 10 a.m. on May 28 at Senior Star at Las Colinas Village, 500 Paisano NE, Albuquerque. A Walgreens pharmacist will present key health information followed by a question and answer session. His topics will cover:
- Sun protection in the summer
- Preventing and treating dryness and itching
- Preventing and treating skin tears and sores
- The shingles virus -- how to treat and prevent this painful skin rash
Protecting the skin is vital, according to the American Cancer Society, which reports: “Skin cancer is the most common of all cancers. It accounts for nearly half of all cancers in the United States. More than 3.5 million cases of basal and squamous cell skin cancer are diagnosed in this country each year. Melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer, will account for more than 76,000 cases of skin cancer in 2014.”
“We are thrilled to collaborate with Walgreens by offering monthly health programs that are particularly relevant to the greater Albuquerque community – like how to enjoy the outdoors and remain healthy,” said Andy King, executive director of Senior Star at Las Colinas Village. “Both Senior Star and Walgreens are committed to living well and we are excited to provide these proactive health discussions for individuals of all ages.”
