Social Capital Foundation Announces $20,000 Grant Supporting Asante Africa Foundation's Leadership & Entrepreneurship Incubator

The Social Capital Foundation has announced a commitment to support the innovative Leadership and Entrepreneurship Incubator for the next three years, annually matching up to $20,000 in donations. The program provides rural African youth with opportunities to practice leadership and lifestyles, preparing them to effect positive changes in their communities and compete in the global economy.

Oakland, CA, June 03, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The Social Capital Foundation has announced a commitment to support Asante Africa Foundation’s Leadership and Entrepreneurship Incubator program with an annual $20,000 matching grant to double donations collected for the next three years.

With a collective GDP in the trillions and a larger middle class than India, Africa’s economic growth is poised to create vast opportunity for its investors and citizens. Education is critical to that potential, and to ensuring that future producers and consumers have the skills to compete.

Since 2011, The Social Capital Foundation has partnered with Asante Africa Foundation to support education and leadership development programs in East Africa. Both global organizations recognize that the value of education is naught without life skills and the ability to apply knowledge beyond the classroom.

“The Leadership and Entrepreneurship Incubator addresses the broader needs of education beyond academics. As these young people finish school they must have the leadership and life skills to prepare for successful careers and create positive change in their communities.” – Erna Grasz, CEO/Founder, Asante Africa Foundation

The Leadership and Entrepreneurship Incubator is a catalyst that inspires participants to create their own personal and professional development plans. Vulnerable youth ages 15-21 from deeply rural areas of Kenya and Tanzania convene for a one-week intensive seminar, followed throughout the year with local individual and group coaching. They work with their peers across borders to learn from local educators, business owners and peer leaders about personal leadership and development, respecting their bodies, careers, money management, entrepreneurship and global citizenship. Alumni return in successive years as team leaders and facilitators. They leave with defined dreams and plans to achieve them, plans to “pay it forward” by giving back in their home communities, and the confidence to work with their peers and elders to create positive change.

“To date, SCF has witnessed many first hand examples of the power of relatively modest investments in providing opportunities for creating leaders, stronger families and vibrant communities. Asante Africa Foundation’s Leadership and Entrepreneurship Incubator is particularly effective because they work with local professionals to present leadership, life skills and career readiness topics in ways that are truly applicable to these youth and their communities.” – Laura DeVere, Founder and Director, Social Capital Foundation
