Money Examiners Show Majority Want Wage Hike

A new Money Examiners poll has revealed that the majority of Americans want minimum wages increased for workers.

Las Vegas, NV, June 04, 2014 --( The U.S. minimum wage should be increased, according to a new poll by Money Two out of three respondents to the survey (67%) said that the minimum wage, paid to most fast food workers and others working in low-skilled jobs should be increased.

The survey results were released just after the Seattle, Washington city council unanimously voted to impose the highest minimum wage in the country of $15 an hour. The increase, which will be implemented over a series of years, is an historic achievement for workers who have staged protests across the nation in efforts to get minimum wages increased.

The pay hike will benefit about 25% of Seattle's work force, including a large number of women and minorities. The jump in wages will more than double the federal minimum wage, which is currently set at $7.25 an hour.

The Seattle increase may also propel efforts to gain higher minimum wages across the nation, and put pressure on Congress to seriously consider legislation to hike minimum wages for workers in fast food businesses, including McDonald's, Subway and Taco Bell, where minimum pay standards have been the norm for decades.
