Professor Peter Grant, Former Queensland Government CIO, Joins Advisory Services Firm IBRS

Sydney, Australia, June 28, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Professor Peter Grant, former Queensland Government CIO, today joins the independent Australian research and advisory services firm, Intelligent Business Research Services (IBRS.)

Professor Grant will work with IBRS’s existing research and advisory clients through both regular inquiries and consulting engagements. His research agenda will focus on the transformational changes taking place in business and ICT, new innovation opportunities, organisational design and skills redeployment, management of enterprise-scale ICT and customer excellence.

Professor Grant has a wealth of industry expertise, in particular in large and complex organisations. Prior to his role as Government CIO, Grant held CIO positions where he controlled direct control of ICT budgets, one in excess of $300,000,000 p.a. In his most recent role as the Chief Information Officer for Queensland Government, Grant delivered the first whole of government ICT Audit, providing a previously unseen level of transparency into the health of IT systems across government. Key to the findings were the identification of business and technical risks, and savings opportunities measured in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

Grant has also worked at a Federal level at departments such as Centrelink; Medicare; Climate Change and Energy Efficiency; and, Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. He provided advice at board level on: service delivery, channel management and high level ICT strategy and customer excellence. He also facilitated executive level workshops on leadership and organisational capability as well as one-on-one mentoring to business and ICT executives.

IBRS CEO, Nick Bowman, says: “Peter is a great fit for IBRS. As the largest independent Australian research advisory services firm, we’ve set ourselves apart by delivering pragmatic, actionable advice matched to local conditions. Few people have a better understanding of the challenges faced by Australian CIOs, the nuances and constraints of policy, culture, skills and technology. For our clients in both the Private and Public sector, Peter brings depth of experience and practical advice.”

Grant believes IBRS provides him a unique opportunity to build expertise among Australian CIOs. “The role of the CIO is forever changing - now more than ever. The pressures of technology budgets moving out of traditional IT, of balancing powerful stakeholders, and of rapidly changing economics due to cloud, mobility and consumerisation, means that CIOs are more than ever under the gun. The IBRS model of ongoing advisory means that I can work with CIOs and their teams as they navigate these changes.”

Peter adds to an already experienced and established team of advisors, including:

Sue Johnston: IT management, innovation, vendor management

Dr Kevin McIsaac: infrastructure, virtualisation, mobility

James Turner: risk and security

Jorn Bettin: big data, development and enterprise integration

Joe Sweeney: desktops, mobility and licensing

Guy Cranswick: economics, digital marketing and social

Wissam Rafful: cloud, outsourcing

Alan Hansell: IT and business management
