Campus Alerting Webcast Released
Galain Solutions released a webcast on the pros and cons of various alerting channels for colleges and universities. The "Campus and National Alerting Webcast" also addresses improving access, streamlining alert activations, and saving resources on campus alerting initiatives.
Wimberly says, “Campus alerting is serious business. People’s lives, safety, well-being and a school’s reputation depend upon successful alerting. There are many alerting challenges, technology options, and vendor claims that create confusion.” Among the challenges, emphasizes Wimberly, is knowing which alerting channels to use and how to manage them effectively.
In addition to reviewing channels commonly used on campuses, the webcast discusses use of the federal Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) on campuses, including the cell broadcast system, Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA). “IPAWS and WEA shouldn’t replace other channels,” states Wimberly, “but they may be a strong supplement to other alerting channels used by colleges and universities.”
The webcast is available at no charge, and can be found at www.CampusAlertingWebcast.com.
It also addresses improving access to people with disabilities and language barriers, streamlining alert activations, and saving resources on campus alerting initiatives.
