WOU Offers Full-Time Degrees in Penang at Affordable Fees

Penang Island, Malaysia, July 06, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The affordable costs, attractive rebates and highly-recognised degrees led more than 60 school-leavers and diploma holders seeking to fulfil their study dreams to immediately take up full-time study programmes at Wawasan Open University (WOU) during a recent launch in Penang.

In fulfilling its mission to expand study opportunities for Malaysians from all walks of life, WOU has made it possible for school leavers to now pursue degrees with excellent quality standards at a much more affordable cost in Penang.

In line with its noble values to be socially-inclusive, for the upcoming September 2014 intake, prospective students can even expect more financial assistance in the form of rebates of up to 20% of total tuition fee plus a RM100 monthly study allowance (COLA) when they study at WOU (terms and conditions apply). The rebates and monthly study allowances worth up to RM10,000 from WOU are being offered to the first 100 students seeking to pursue their degrees at the very scenic Penang campus. With these rebates and monthly allowances, WOU has lightened the burdens of parents and students in sustaining their studies by providing access to higher education affordable to everyone.

WOU, a pioneer open distance learning (ODL) institution in Malaysia, is leveraging on its ODL expertise to offer quality and affordable full-time study to STPM school-leavers and diploma holders.

Petrina Muriel Joachim, who is pursuing her full-time Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Management with WOU, is thankful as her study would not have been possible if not for WOU’s generous tuition fee rebates since her father works as a marketing assistant and her mother is a home-maker.

Her learning is adequately supported by experienced and dedicated lecturers, who have honed their skills from teaching in the ODL environment at WOU. “The lecturers teach in detail and offer guidance whenever we need it. In fact, every student is assigned his or her academic advisor from the day they begin their studies,” said Petrina, whose alma mater is the St George’s Girls School, Penang.

Saw Hui Theng from Jelutong, Penang meanwhile is doing her Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Accounting at WOU, after completing her STPM at Methodist Boys School. The youngest of three girls, she is the first to enter university in her family, making her parents proud.

She loved Accounting and Mathematics during her school days. “My school counselling teacher and a friend recommended WOU to me. I was drawn to the beautiful campus environment and the affordable cost compared to other private universities,” stated Saw, whose dad works as a forklift driver to provide for the family.

Saw aspires to become a Chartered Accountant, and will benefit from the recognition accorded to WOU’s full-time Accounting degree by Certified Practising Accountants Australia (CPA Australia), Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW), and Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). She will enjoy exemptions and a quicker pathway to her ambition.

Besides Management and Accounting, WOU is all set to roll out two more full-time business degree programmes soon – and they are in Marketing and in Banking & Finance.

Enrolment for full-time study for the September semester is now ongoing. Interested students possessing a minimum of two Principals in STPM/A-Levels or at least five grades B in UEC Senior Middle II or Diploma/Foundation/Matriculation or equivalent qualifications should apply fast and become one of the first 100 recipients of WOU’s socially inclusive and attractive fee rebates and study allowances.

WOU reduces the financial burdens of higher education and allows students to focus on their studies and carve a good career for themselves.
