John H. Brown Begins Blog to Discuss All Areas of Exit Planning

John Brown, CEO and founder of Business Enterprise Institute, begins blog for business owners to address planning for the eventual exit from their businesses.

Denver, CO, August 08, 2014 --(PR.com)-- John H. Brown, CEO and founder of Business Enterprise Institute, announced today that he has created a blog to advise business owners in Exit Planning, a topic that is fast becoming popular among baby boomer business owners who are beginning to think about the future of their businesses. John Brown's blog will help owners to grow value, reduce risk, and maintain control of their businesses—especially throughout the ownership transition process.

"The blog gives me the opportunity to connect business owners to best practices in the areas of value building and exit planning as well as to changes in estate and business tax legislation. My goal is to interpret how external factors (e.g. the flat economy, low investment return climate, increasing taxation, the internet) affect mid-size businesses and ultimately, their owners' exit plans.”

For over 30 years, John Brown has skillfully guided hundreds of business owners through the most important financial (and emotional) transaction of their lives: the exit from their companies. John started his legal career in Denver, Colorado as an estate planning attorney for owners of closely held companies. While his clients were planning their exits from life, they simply didn’t know how to plan the exit from their companies. Given that their businesses constituted their largest asset, John was challenged to create a customizable, repeatable and successful process that would convert those valuable assets to cash.

Brown will draw upon his experience to describe the many challenges owners encounter as they build enterprise value, protect it and ultimately transfer it to another. “I approach all these challenges from an owner-centric perspective,” says Brown. “Will an action promote business value and move owners closer to their goals? Does an action increase or minimize risk to the business or its owner? Does the action loosen the owner’s control over the business?”

In his posts, Brown will also offer suggestions to owners about dealing with decisions regarding the inevitability of exit the business, the appropriate timing of an exit, getting started on an exit path, choosing a successor and crafting a meaningful post-exit life.
